Broke out with shingles, after taking these consistently it stopped spreading and cleared up 3 spots that were about to break out with blisters, reversed progression and keeping it at bay. My girlfriend started getting breakouts after we started dating, that she had never gotten before. She did get occasional cold sores, but I heard the outbreaks vary depending on hormonal balance. We thought it was a rash and continued kissing, then I finally decided to do some research and realized it was Cold Sores (Herpes Type 1). I fell into a immediate depression and got a really bad break out in the mouth and 1 cold sore on the top of my lip. I also got really sick on top of this. When I went to the doctor she offered little comfort and wasn't to helpful in my questions, cause I was just terrified of spreading it to other areas (eyes, private). She gave me a prescription drug Acyclovir, which the pharmacist told me doesn't help much. On top of this the doctor refused to issue a second prescription, she said I could get more when I have another break out...(this does not help prevent obviously). I went online and found out about Lysine but originally thought it was a scam at first. The website Herpes Support Network gave me a specific Lysine product to buy and more info about the diseases. The info was great but the product info seemed skewed to the get you to buy it. I decided to buy Lysine from another source that would be independent, I came to Amazon. I read the reviews about the various Lysine products and the weight of the world was lifted off me, finally I had something to take as a preventive drug! Ever since me and my girlfriend started taking this she has had much much milder outbreaks (barely noticeable), and me only 1. I was careless to have mine because I ate chocolate cover nuts, very bad for someone with Herpes because of the high Arginine content found in chocolates/nuts/GELATIN/etc. It is known to cause outbreaks cause the virus thrives off this amino acid Arginine and thats why Lysine is taken because it counters the effects of Arginine in your body. Some people say that Herpes cannot be predicted and you cannot say for sure that something helps fight it, this maybe true. But here is my experience after taking this product. ***We Take Lysine Daily, vary between 2-3 Pills during no outbreaks, and 6 during break outs. It is important not to take too much because one so your body can build its own immune system and you don't want to overdose on your body. Do research online to decide the dosage you should take. ***Girlfriend After Taking: Her breakouts reduced GREATLY ***Me After Taking: Only got one break out, which was 1 in the mouth, and its time was reduced. ***I like this because it contains multiple ingredients than just Lysine, I read online that calcium + other stuff with Lysine helps fight Herpes better. ***Contains: 100 MG Vitamin C, 29 MG Vitamin C, 1500 L-Lysine, 200 MG Gralic Bulb, 100 MG Echinacea Whole Plant, 25 MG Propolis, 15 MG Licorice Root, Cellulose, vegetable stearine, sodium hydroxycellulose, cellulose coating (HPMC), and natural coatings. ***These Pills are also not very large, 500 MG each in size ***Also avoid supplement pills or food with gelatin in them or anything else that has Arginine in it, as you would be increasing chances of an outbreak. *********************************************************************** UPDATE Nov. 2014 *********************************************************************** Me and my girlfriends breakouts have stopped greatly. They do periodically show up, if I am sick or get no sleep and stay up all night. Basically this means if you do things that hurt or weaken your immune system (go out in the cold uncovered, not get rest, etc...) there is a chance your breakouts show up again. On the positive side I do not have to take this product anymore and they usually go away within a week. I am hoping it is just the fact that my body has produced enough antibodies to fight the herpes virus off at the specific locations they pop-up at. I have to make something clear, I do not know how much exactly this product helped me (it's not like I did a controlled experiment). Final recommendation, I would say try the product out and see what works for you (what amount of dosage reduces or prevents breakouts). My final dosage before I stopped using it was, 2 during no breakouts, 3-4 during breakouts. This most likely varies person by person. This is still a better option than those ridiculous overpriced medication the doctors prescribe.

Excellent product. Great value to get it here. It really works. I always keep a supply of these on hand for boosting my immunity when I need to to. They don't bother my stomach. Easy to swallow. No bad taste.

My first experience with Lysine was as a kid, I would regularly get AWFUL canker sores (note: these are different than cold sores) in my mouth (which I now know is from eating acidic or super sugary foods/candies) that would last for weeks and make it painful to eat, brush my teeth, etc. My grandfather actually recommended taking Lysine supplements for that and I didn't get another canker sore for years! Even after I stopped regularly taking the supplements. As for cold sores, I contracted HSV1 as an adult and immediately took to the internet for home remedies to prevent getting them altogether. Lysine supplements consistently popped up and I spoke to my doctor about it who highly encouraged taking the supplements to help prevent and/or lessen the severity of an outbreak. I noticed that a cold sore would pop up during periods of extreme stress or when I had some sort of hormonal imbalance (aka when I was switching to a new hormonal birth control method and my body was still adjusting) but after a while of taking these supplements, when I did get one, they were WAY less severe and didn't come on as quickly (giving me time to start taking the anti-viral pill prescribed by my doctor before it got too bad). Overall, I have no idea whether these supplements are what is actually causing my cold sores to be less severe or if it's just my body being better able to fight the infection over time (antibodies - yay!) but it's certainly worth it to try. Especially if you suffer from regular, severe HSV outbreaks. The bottle recommends taking three pills a day: one in the morning, one around lunch, and one around dinner time on an empty stomach but if you're anything like me.. your stomach is never empty except for in the morning right after waking up (lol!). I started taking all three first thing in the morning before heading to work and it seems to work just fine. One major thing I did notice right after starting these supplements is that I would start to feel a little anxious about mid morning. which the internet informed me was due to the licorice in this product. Apparently licorice raises your blood pressure.. who knew! After a while my body got used to it and I stopped getting this feeling, but it's definitely something to discuss with your doctor if you have issues with your blood pressure already. Other than that, these seem great. I haven't noticed any sort of bad odor and they seem to be pretty tasteless.

Lysine is great for keeping colds away, just make sure you start taking it as soon as you feel sick. Otherwise it doesn't really do anything. I've also noticed the suggested dosage does not always work. It definitely depends on the person as I know some people who just stick to it and are fine, so I would start w the suggested dosages, but if it doesn't work it may be because you need to increase.

I have been taking Lysine for many years now and this product works! It boosts my immune system (I have only had one cold in the past five years). Highly recommend.

Quantum Health Super Lysine+ was my favorite go-to brand for this supplement for years! Now, Amazon has their own brand and it seems Amazon took it upon itself to cancel my order by rendering it "undeliverable" and issuing me a refund. Amazon seems to be taking away the customers ability to chose their preferred product brand in instances where they offer a competitive product. Shameful! Unscrupulous!

My husband and I both get cold sores. The first time I got one I also ended up with my entire face tingling and basically eye herpes. I was terrified. I read 1M reviews and decided to try this. He and I both take 3 a day and neither one of us has had an outbreak in almost two years. He used to get them minimum 2-3 a year and after my whole face incident I fully expected to have them frequently. I swear by this stuff.

Honestly a life changer for me. I used to get bad cold sores every month. I've been taking this (¹ per day) for years now and the frequency has dropped to a few times a year and the severity is much less than before. I should probably add that I needed to take this for a few months before it had any real effect, so stick with it (I.e. finish the bottle) it may be better to have a higher dosage to start with to saturate your system, then just do a top up tablet each day. My son suffers from Erythema multiforme. Because of his age and weight now he takes the adult does everyday and has had a very minor breakout in the last 4 years. I highly recommend this product!!!!!
