A Fin-tastic Addition to Your Micro PC
When I decided to upgrade my micro PC, I knew I needed a hard drive that could keep up with my digital ambitions. Enter the Seagate BarraCuda 5TB Internal Hard Drive – a behemoth of storage that promises to turn your mini machine into a data-swallowing shark. First off, let me say, this drive is no lightweight minnow. It's a chunky boy, not suited for the delicate confines of a laptop. Trying to fit it into my micro PC was like trying to squeeze a sumo wrestler into skinny jeans—tight, but ultimately successful! Performance-wise, this drive swims circles around the competition. Speed and reliability are as advertised, making it a true powerhouse. Loading files, booting up, and transferring data feel like a breeze, even when dealing with massive amounts of information. It’s like having a turbo-charged engine in your tiny car. However, be warned, this BarraCuda is strictly for the mini machine crowd. If you attempt to put it in your laptop, you might end up with a device that resembles an overstuffed suitcase. But for micro PCs and other small form factors, it's the perfect catch. In summary, if you need a storage solution that's both speedy and spacious, the Seagate BarraCuda 5TB HDD is a reel-y great choice. Just make sure your device can handle its chonky design, and you'll be riding the waves of data with ease!

True Value, and doesn't disappoint in performance per gb/$.
An easy install and great value, the drive performs well with short file copies between the Barracuda and an SSD (Hynix). Note it IS 5400 RPM, NOTE IT IS 128 meg CACHE. These are key factors in your drive purchase, performance vs. battery life. I've found it to be especially efficient with file or file selects under 2 GB for copies between the drives on the same laptop system. File copies and backups via a 1 gb network connection work great most of the time, and the read/writes are over 60 meg/sec write via the network to another 7200 RPM drive (WD Blue WZEZ), even 100 meg/sec to a (boot) SSD on the network. Expect the benchmarks to be correct, value at a good performance rate. As stated smaller transfers also have great burst over the 1 gb network, with less than 1.5 Gb copying in under 6-10 seconds. This drive does well on smaller copy transfers than larger files due to its 128 meg cache. It's a great second system and backup drive for an SSD (boot) drive based system, on a laptop or desktop. This isn't a workstation drive unless you work backups (Win 10 File history is FAST, as is Win 7 type backup), in which its value speaks for itself. I'd recommend this drive based on price and performance for all things considered. AS-SSD benchmark is reported as 130 meg/sec read, 120 meg/sec write on 4k transfers. It's consistent with other tested benchmarks for the same drive/model. 5 stars, not to mention I have a successful history with Seagate products! TC

Great for the price
Needed this for my Eufy Home base. It's been working for a year without any problems.

A roll of the dice (like most spinners these days)
Ordered six of the 5TB variety back in June 2017. They're all members of an Intel RSTe RAID 5 array. I'm not certain if it's the Intel RSTe RAID or the drives, but they seem very very slow for what the specifications of the drive are. Slow I can live with, unreliable really bothers me. Less than six months in, one of the drives threw up several bad sectors. I marked the drive off as normal so the controller would rebuild the array and fix any parity errors. It took a little more than 24 hours for that to happen, but it succeeded. Then I told the controller to verify and repair. Again, a little more than 24 hours, but it was successful. Then a few hours after that, the troubled drive just stopped functioning completely. Currently waiting on Seagate to see if they're going to give me a new replacement, a refurb replacement, or nothing at all. Three stars because when they work, they work and the capacity is nice for the small form factor. I feel like I can't come down on Seagate too much, because at this point when you buy a hard drive you should know what you're getting into - nothing is guaranteed and luck of the draw seems to be how it works. Update 01/23/2019: Dropped to 1 star because the reliability is so poor with these drives that they are not worth the time. I always a very recent backup of my data, so data loss was not an issue for me. Though, without the backups, I most certainly would have lost something. Had six of them, with 5 active in a RAID 5 array and 1 assigned to be a hot spare. The final straw was having yet another drive go bad on me only to find out the hot spare died as soon as it was called into action. If you need to have even mediocre reliability, these drives are likely not for you.

Noticeably speed up my laptop under windows
My neighbor's laptop stopped working because the hard drive got bad sectors and that stopped windows from booting I was still able to get some data off of it like pictures and stuff like that. This drive is much quicker than the original and the system runs great with it however for the technically minded I noticed that the performance when copying a large file from one part of the drive to the other part of the drive was very very slow it starts out fast but after about 15 seconds slows down to a speed up like 20 megabytes a second or less this won't matter to most people unless you need to move large files on and off your laptop but for regular desktop performance the cache on the hard drive makes things speed up except for really large files where the cash runs empty and things really slow down. Also, I'm really glad I bought this and not an SSD drive which I thought about because SSD drives can start to corrupt files are silent so you don't hear any noises or Warnings that the drives are getting ready to fail they work great one day and the next day they're Stone dead and I feel like the performance of this is good enough to create a nice desktop experience in Windows well it would be great to have the extra speed I am not willing to sacrifice reliability or a sudden failure out of nowhere that leaves all of the data inaccessible even the old drive that failed which I was replacing I could still read a lot of stuff off the drive after Windows ran a Check Disk scan. With an SSD it's it's super fast and everything's great one day and it's game over the next day with no warning also if you do get warnings and you run some repair operations are you willing to trust that drive with your data or you going to back it up every single day which is a waste of time and something no one's going to do.

Perfect Storage Upgrade
Perfect for my EUFY camera system. It fit just as described and was a perfect upgrade for storage capacity. Overall, A great hard drive for the price.

Good so far for virtual storage pool
I'm running five of these in my virtual storage pool (Windows Server 2016 storage pool) for my home server, four months so far. One drive developed two bad sectors, a reformat mapped them out. Maybe in another six months I'll trust them as much as the WD Red drives they replaced - until then all my volumes are three-way mirror, and I have offsite backups. Temperatures are low, of course - a main advantage of going to 2.5" drives. And these are pretty much silent. Not the fastest kid on the block - no surprise there. Still, I see less impact from SMR than I expected. It's interesting to note that the external version of this 5TB drive contains the exact same drive. Everything except drive serial number is exactly the same externally, as well as firmware and any other params I could inspect with HD Tune. At the time of writing the price for an external drive is 119 vs 189 for this internal version. Of course, pulling out the drive from the external enclosure voids any warranty, so it's really a question of how much the warranty is worth. Will more than one out of three drives fail during the warranty period? UPDATE 8/17/2018: All five drives have been running well since January. I wiped and reformatted them back then before redeploying. I have a spare drive but am not bothering with hot swap as uptime is not critical for my home server - I can accept a day's downtime if a drive fails hard. These little drives are performing as well as can be expected. Raising to five stars. UPDATE 12/16/2018: It's been a year now for most of my drives. Still running well. One drive has disconnected from my SAS card twice, hard to tell if it's the drive, card or cabling. In the process I got to see how well double redundancy works - the storage pool didn't even flinch, no downtime, no readonly mode, just rebuilt redundancy using free space on other drives while on single redundancy for a few hours. I ejected and reinserted the disconnected drive, and everything was back to normal again (albeit a bit unbalanced free space).

seagate barracuda 1To

PS4 Pro - Old Reliable
Is it spectacularly fast. No. Does it operate reliably. Absolutely. I recently purchased an Asenno 1TB SSD for my PS4 Pro at £84.99 but it somehow stuttered and lagged more than this £35 HDD. It goes to show how great Seagate is at making these things (or how bad others are at making SSD's). Also if you plan on getting a PS5 in the near future and you want something for your PS4 or PS4 PRO get this instead of an SSD. The truth is an SSD would only make a small difference in these machines but the PS5 would be capable of speeds that make any SATA SSD look silly. So I recommend you save your money.
