Odd question, but its on my mind. If i pee into a bowl, and use the filter on that, will it taste like water or pee?

Salt and urea, along with various other substances your body is trying to eliminate, will remain in the filtered urine so it will still taste like pee (whatever that tastes like.) In a desperate survival situation, many people have resorted to drinking their urine. That is ok up to a point. As your dehydration increases, your urine will become increasingly concentrated (dark and even viscous.) It's best to drink urine early in your survival situation since it will be less concentrated and consequently less toxic. That way you are conserving what water you do have longer. Of course, most people will completely exhaust their water supply before they resort to drinking urine. However, drinking highly concentrated urine is probably worse than not drinking it at all. Also, urine is actually sterile inside your bladder but not as it flows through your urethra. Happy drinking!

I am a bit confused... Does the shelf life of 5 years begin after first use? Or 5 years even if unused? Does it have a manufactured date on it? If we don't use them do we need to replace them every 5 years?

5 years from manufacture date which is supposed to be printed on the packaging . Last ones I bought from Amazon were expired but the manufacture and expiration date had been removed from the packaging . I contacted lifestraw and according to the batch #,they mistakenly left, they were 7 years out of date . If you go to your local caming or sporting goods store you will see they clearly DO come with a manufacture,expiration date and batch # . Remember you get what you pay for and trying to save a few dollars purchasing from sellers that arent exactly honest and sold you a unuseable,expired product isnt a good deal in the end. If it doesnt have a date you can find on the packaging then its most likely been removed and either out of date or close to .

Can you use it with sea water the LifeStraw

No, the Life Straw does not remove salt from ocean water. You can buy desalinators on Amazon for around $250- $300 that can make drinkable water from salt water. Unfortunately, Life Straws cannot remove salt or dangerous chemicals from contaminated water.

It says UP TO 1000 liters, since you're not measuring your water and it depends on how bad the water is, how do you know when it has reached its limt?

Take a 1 liter jar, fill it with water, now draw out the water using the straw a mouthful at a time. Count how many mouthfuls you get from a liter of water. Multiply. that by 1,000. Men, women and children will have different figures.

These come in so handy if you're out on a backpacking trip or a fishing trip or if you're just curious and want to give one a try they are literally Lifesavers and the value for the money is no matter what they can save your life, there are trusted name brand water filter that gives you drinkable water quality, the weight and size are perfect to have in a backpack, a truck, a car, a boat, in a bike pack or whatever. I'm sure you catch my drift the build quality is really good too I have used one of these before just for the sake of seeing if I got sick if I drink some questionable water. I can say with all confidence I did not get sick and in a scenario where there could be an emergency you don't want to be empty-handed when it comes to away to have the ability to drink water and to be safe and knowing your kids would be safe as well and obviously the ability to start a fire in a responsible manner but fire water and shelter are the three most important things in a survival situation. So, Deal or No Deal, Black Friday or Amazon days or whatever buy multiple packs of these so you can give them as gifts or so you can teach your friends and family and kids how to use these as the price point is very fair for something that can literally save your life if you are around a water source and you aren't able to boil it. Hats off to the people who invent this kind of stuff and as an avid Outdoorsman I keep these things in my boat, and my kayak, and my car, and my truck, and in my backpacks and I always make sure my kids have one as well just because!

Works well , have not got sick drinking from questionable sources . Does plug if too much chunks in the water lol but can be cleared and keep using. Great for camping and hiking
