Review: Why Did I Not Get This A Long Time Ago????? - This is a great product and please bear with me - first time doing a video and this type of product review but felt this one was worth it! I got this because health reasons require a change of diet and food preparation and although I love cooking I hate the preparation. So, being told vegetables and fruits (heavy on the FRESH vegetables) would now be playing a big part in my life did not make me happy. I can't tell you what exactly made me settle on the Mueller product but 4.9 out of 5 stars tells you I am happy I did - we will get to the .1 in a minute. This product is wonderful - the video is not great and probably my first and last as I suck at it, I didn't even show the product up front, but it is the Mueller Onion Chopper Pro, don't know why they call it that because it chops EVERYTHING! I was standing in the video, but during this entire session which was a little under two hours, I washed and prepared a 3 lb bag of onions, a 3 lb bag of carrots, 2 large heads of celery, 2 large green peppers, 1 large red pepper, and 1 large orange pepper. I wasn't sure how small I needed to cut the pieces, so I tried to size them to fit the opening of the cutter blade. Yes, you do have to do some preparation, but all that small dicing and cutting is gone forever and that is what I hated. I thought if I could take an hour or so at the beginning of the week and get all the vegetables cut that would save at least 20 minutes of prep time per meal. In the end, I have enough vegetables for at least 2 weeks, not 1. I will be adding white potatoes and sweet potatoes soon, but need to do some research on how best to preserve them. This product is a lifesaver. The picture does not show an additional package of mixed peppers, another package of onions, and another package of carrots and celery mixed, all this was done at one time - I am truly amazed with this product. Now, let's talk about safety. They give you ample warnings. Remember one size of the blade is very, very sharp. My only complaint about this product and it could be my fault that I didn't figure it out is there was no way to store the blades within the container - that is my -.1. The product is easy to use, very sturdily built, easy to clean, and does not take a huge amount of strength to use. After the video, I was sitting down except to cut the top part of a couple of large carrots. It does not say it is okay to sit down. I am older and have a problem standing. I was seated at a regular, sturdy table with the product placed on the table and I was seated correctly. I very easily used the product with no problem, so I say for us "oldies, but goodies" this is a great product or for those who have a problem standing and have put off cooking because of food preparation - go for it, but be sensible. Great product, make it your next buy!

I have spent significantly more on nicer ones with replaceable blades, more exact slices, etc. But I really needed a good mandoline slicer that does a bit more than slice in one size. I have heard good things about the Mueller V-Pro 5 (as well as other products they make) from other chefs, so I decided to buy this one. I needed the following out of my slicer. - Adjustable slice thickness (this can slice paper thin to a respectable thickness to a bit over 1/3") - Julienne/Alumette/French cut as well as straight slicing Added bonus - Wavy cut (ridges) - Grates - Juliennes in two sizes (there are blades underneath the slicing deck that you can rotate and lock into place) - Case for the blades This one is simply the best in its class, nothing in this price range will come close. It is very sharp, both the 5 insert blades, as well as the deck blades for Julienning tucked into the bottom of the deck. Using the product, I love how it slices the vegetables very thin, especially onions for bagels, lox and cream cheese, or tomatoes for a thin slices in a burger, but the best of all, it can slice it almost paper thin. Great for like slicing cucumbers for sunomono. The Julienne slices can be perfect for stuffing vegetables in a spring roll, or for making various slaws. The grater is fantastic as well. One thing I will also like to note is the blades are very sharp. I would use this tool with caution if you have not used a madoline slicer in the past, and make sure to use the food holder and guard. I have used so many in the past, I am used to it, and I know when to stop, so I haven't used the food holder and guard. This is one of the best kitchen products that I have purchased recently, and I highly recommend this to everyone I know that loves to cook. Makes cooking a lot easier and faster (try julienning 5 kinds of vegetables for a dish), and cleaning this tool is very easy and fast too. Sure, I can julienne and make pretty flower shaped or rose petals out of carrots or make a fish net out of daikon radish just using a knife, but you know, when you want to cook a meal in 30 minutes, nothing beats a great tool. If you are looking to shortcut your cooking time, this tool is must buy for most use cases.

**Q: I am looking for a slicer which can slice very thin.  What is the thinest slice in mm?**
A: Mine slices things like beets and carrots super-thin, a sixteenth of an inch or so. I use the slices to make chips in the oven, and the thinnest setting is actually too thin for me. I have to go up one or two settings from the thinnest.

**Q: Why can't I lift up the blade to replace it. I would have to pry it up with something**
A: Always take it out from the bottom. Safest. Easiest. Grab the mandolin with both hands. The top side should be facing you, and your thumbs will be on that top side with your fingers hidden underneath, clasping the unit. One hand should be where the hinges are...and the other on the opposite side (the side typically touching the countertop when open and ready for use). Now, just hold the mandolin with your thumb on top, (far from the blade) and apply simple consistent force with your fingers from underneath. Sometimes, one side dislodges first. If this happens, just apply equal pressure to the opposite side. Now the blade is free. Rotate it up from the two plastic tabs which serve as hinges. They are located on the blade side. Now, gently tug or pull when the insert (with the blade), and the main body form an angle greater than 45 degrees. At this point the insert/ blade should be completely free. Respect the blade. It is sharp. Treat it the same way that you would any sharp knife.

**Q: Does it do cubes?**
A: Actually Progressive makes a mandoline that cubes and slices.  It's the PL8 Professional cubing Mandoline.  About $70 here on Amazon.

**Q: Can it slice 3/8 inch thick sweet potatoes?**
A: It can slice anywhere from 1-9 mm in 1 mm increments. Since there are 25.4 mm in an inch it can slice at max slightly more than 1/3 inch thick (9mm) or  @.35 inches. 3/8 = Roughly that so, i would say yes, at max, it’s about 3/8 thick. If it needs to be precisely 3/8 then it’ll be off by a few thousandths

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Works smoothly except for long direction slicing like zucchini

I had another brand of mandolin slicer when working in Canada that I had to leave behind. This works as well or better than that with the exception of long slicing vegetables like zuchinni. One thing I use this for is making low carb zucchini lasagna. The other slicer had a recess in the top holder to use with cyclindrical vegetables on their side that allowed the pins to grabe the vegetables. This is flat across and the grid on the pusher does not engage the food and grip it. I had to use my thumb to push on the end of the food carefully and towards the end pull the remaining portion through. I did not want to add any of my protein to the meal... Other than that, it works great and will fit over some bowls. I wish they would make a bowl designed for this. Especially the long slices do not go into the bowl well as they hit the end of the bowl while slicing. Other foods work well. Mincing or dicing foods such as onions goes easily and one trick I use on items I want to dice is to make some cross cuts in the food so that the ends are not long strips. This is the same for all of these slicers, not just Mueller. Once that is done the dicing goes smoothly. Cleaning is easy except for the thin notches in the bed where the built in knives come up. You need a small bush to reach in there, but that cleans it up quickly. Nice unit.
