I was at my heaviest weight, 300-320, am 6'2 and a former athlete. I have had fairly serious leg injuries in the past. I played football for over 20 years, so you can imagine the damage my knees (torn ligaments) and ankles (6 casts). My added weight worried me that most shoes were not giving me enough support.I tried the 990v3 in a size 11 4E and loved them. Eventually, I lost some weight (very common for fluctuations in my weight) and was down more in the 270 range. I had been wearing the 990v3 daily, a year or so had passed and I saw the New Balance 1080v6 (fresh foam). I switched to those and have been wearing those from 1080v6 - 1080v8 (have 6 pairs). This year, 2018, I'm at my lowest weight since college (235) and was looking for something to wear this fall and winter.I saw the navy 990v4 and ordered them. Of note, my size is now 11 2E or W, depending on the seller. Why the switch back? They're sturdier than the 1080s, firmer. I've been exercising more and feel like the sturdier sole helps with any impact I put on my knees and ankles. One of my favorite parts about the 990v4 is it great for those like me with high arches. My arches, despite all the injuries and up and down weight a clearly defined 2" from the floor to my arch at its highest point (instep). The padding is excellent, better than the v3 and not near as soft as the 1080 but more supportive than the 1080. The 1080s felt more like a casual shoe which I still use them for. The 990v4 feels more like an athletic shoe.Mine don't show any design flaws, there's a Made in the USA tab on the tongue and on the back/heel. For what it's worth, my last pair of 990v3's lasted 3 years, I then gave them to my father-in-law and he wore them for another 3 years. These shoes have excellent durability. It's never fun paying the price for them but I don't like having to buy new shoes every 3 months either. I'll pay the premium price for the premium, made in the USA, quality. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The perfect shoe for the perfect man *by E***S on Reviewed in the United States 🇺🇸 on October 20, 2016* I was literally driving myself crazy shopping for a surprise gift for my husband. I knew he needed a new pair of tennis shoes and wanted the best for him as always. I looked at basically everything out there and did tons of research. He does already have several pairs of new balance shoes, as do I, but his are so worn out that he definitely needed something new for every day. I kept reviewing this version and last year's version, the V3. I drove myself crazy for a fall day going back-and-forth reading reviews. A lot of people said they didn't notice a difference and then there were a lot that said they did. The major differences are slight more cushioning and the tongue of the shoe. Otherwise, I believe they are pretty equal. I chose to go with these for several reasons. First, the M3 is discontinued. Second, this is an upgraded version and extra cushioning will obviously have its benefits especially for all day, every day wear. Third and of the least concern to me, they were on sale and I also had an Amazon credit which would've gone towards anything so that doesn't really matter. Between the two styles it was approximately a $45 difference and to me, money is not going to be an issue when it comes to my husband's comfort and happiness. So, after placing and canceling orders I eventually went with these in Navy. When they arrived the very next day after ordering, even though it was a Sunday, I was very happy to give these to my husband. They look very nice in the Navy. My husband tried them on and they fit perfectly. I ordered his normal size. He started wearing them the very next day. When he arrived home he told me the shoes were excellent and extremely comfortable. He was and still is very happy with them. It has been approximately two months now since I've ordered them and they are still as perfect as they were the first day. My husband wears these shoes every day, all day, until he gets home and/or when he's not wearing his memory from Adidas flip-flops. Thank you so much for making the perfect shoe for the perfect man!
