Is this machine washable? and What is the material made of, i.e. cotton?

Microfiber material. Soft and durable and yes you can wash.

does it come with matress and frame

This is just the cover for the futon mattress. Mattress and frame sold separately.

Will this fit over your futon and the back of your frame? I'd rather not see the frame when it's in the upright couch position.

No. This is a futon cover. It is like a fitted sheet or pillowcase that fits tightly around the futon pad, and zips up.

Does the linen print-birds-brown cover have a black or brown background?

Thank you for choosing OctoRose. The background base color is brown. Please notes this is high end product with upholstery material made.
