Free, Michael Castillejos, Khristine Hvam, Dianne Doan, Jonathan Davis, William Morrow: Audible Books & Originals Review: Wow just Wow!!! - If I could give this book more than five stars I would! This read pulled me out of a reading slump so fast and had me needing to know how it ended. I will say one of the last pages is missing I believe it’s 383 but the book still has a satisfying conclusion. Was the very ending predictable of course but the story to get there was gripping, twisty and kept me wanting more! Do yourself a favor and pick this up! Review: Love the Modern True Crime - I enjoyed the true crime podcast twist. The music in the audible version is very annoying and doesn't flow but other than that, I loved the story and hope there will be more.

Good idea, flawed product
Nice concept and I enjoyed the podcast sections of the book. However, Elle, the main character, is a very messed up person, and I didn’t enjoy the sections where she is the focus. Her husband is a caricature, her behavior annoying/irrational and the idea that any important police figure would take her seriously and allow her to be involved in their cases just absurd. Liked the story, disliked and disbelieved the main character. Plus, background of the killer was incredibly trite and implausible. The New York Times review really lead me astray. I do not consider this worthy of all the attention it’s gotten. Three stars.

great read
As a debut book, this was well written with twists and turns. If you’re a Crime Junkie podcast fan, you’ll enjoy this book.

Solid book
I read this book but highly recommend it as an audible book instead. I really appreciate the way the author set up this story and the ending was how we as consumers should be thinking about serial killers and mass murderers.

Calling all true crime podcast lovers!
Five stars for this true crime podcast thriller! Elle is determined to find out who The Countdown Killer is with the help of her podcast. Someone knows, and ups the ante when he takes someone close to her. The story was the perfect mix of action in typical format, and info sharing in the form of podcast transcripts. I only wish it was real so I could listen! The characters were great. There was a twist about 3/4 in that I NEVER saw coming! Definitely recommend if you love true crime podcasts or expertly paced thrillers! And to think this was a debut!!

Gripping
This story was engaging, a page turner. The plot stayed true through the entire story, it did not disappoint with a week ending.

Predictable
I was so excited for this book because the story line was gripping, and I am a true crime podcast fanatic. But I have to say it was a bit predictable. The character development was well done, but it was slow at times and hard to get through

This was a great drama/thriller. I really enjoyed the podcast transcripts that interspersed the book and how the backstory of each person was slowly revealed as the book went on. The characters were diverse and felt realistic and you could really emphasise with the struggles and emotions they were going through. One negative was that I did get annoyed when the plot 'twist' I had been hoping so much wouldn't happen, did occur as it just felt a little too predictable from the get go. However I take back that it is entirely predictable as some of the things it threw at me had me gasping in shock. Overall, it was a great, fast-paced read that had me captivated, even if at times a little predictable. Favourite Quote - But whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a heavy millstone hung around his neck, and to be drowned in the depth of the sea. Favourite Character - Natalie

True crime - either podcasting or writing - seems to be a new theme in fictional crime novels. Wake by Shelley Burr and More Than You'll Ever Know by Katie Gutierrez are two recent examples. And here's another one! A true-crime podcaster decides to use her platform to track down the killer in a decades' old cold case, only to find that he starts killing again. The first two-thirds of this are top-notch crime fiction and then there's a pretty good twist, but it gets a bit so-so after that, especially as the killer is revealed way before the end. Structurally, the final third felt a bit off to me. But I did enjoy it and would read another by the same author.

Such a fantastic read! Couldn’t put it down, finished it in 3 days. Loved the manner it is written in.
