I am an experienced paranormal investigator myself, yet reading this book and going back to the basics still reminded me of some important things I had forgotten. My daughter has expressed an interest in ghost hunting with my husband, but just as he has read books about ghost hunting on an adult level, my daughter needs to read about the pros and cons on her level. I am requiring her to read this book in entirety before dabbling on her first ghost hunt. It's important that parents be involved in their kid's interests, especially when it can be potentially dangerous. This would be true of watching mature movies, riding on ATVs or going rock climbing, too. Ghost hunting also has its hazards, and it's important that kids understand that, while being hyped in the media and on shows like the Othersiders, Psychic Kids and Ghost Adventureres, ghost hunting is not just for kicks and hunting tools are not just toys. Before reading this book, my daughter mentioned going to a graveyard to check out EVPs. I immediately said no and sought out a book to emphasize my warnings, which include everything from safety, trespassing, legality of going to cemetary at night, disrespect for sacred areas, unauthorized use of a venue, in addition to obtaining and learning about EVPs safely. If your child expresses an interest in ghost hunting, it's important to be involved and ask questions. Why do they want to do it? What will they learn? Are they in danger of occult attachment? Are they mature enough to handle potentially scary or harmful phenomena? Teens are still growing, physically and emotionally, and ghost hunting carries psychological dangers for children, just as it does for adults. Hunting for paranormal activity and EVPs can be addicting and can lead to emotional or psychological stress, if not kept in perspective as a hobby. It's important to keep an open dialog with your teen, and to stress the entertainment value of these investigations, as well as the scientific application. Be sure to watch for signs that ghost hunting is stressing or alienating your child, and make it a family activity instead of a slumber party one. We do not keep a Ouija board in our house, and ghost hunting is not used as apart of a seance or anything that can lead to negative emotional influences for my teen, but it's important to make sure that your child doesn't feel like ghost hunting is making them feel uncomfortable. The last thing you want is for a hobby to lead to years of therapy.

What I love about this book that you do not find in many others that broach similar subjects, is that it isn't "preachy" and doesn't dictate one or two "right ways" of investigating the paranormal. Although geared toward teens, the content is suitable for those of all ages and combs through all the basics people should know and understand prior to becoming a paranormal investigator. Instead of being dry and devoid of humor, the book will make you laugh and keep your interest as you plow though it's easy to read and understand chapters. Pretty scientific attitude
Was surprised at how rational and skeptical this guide is. Pretty scientific attitude, throughout, with a few exceptions. I would recommend this to a kid looking to ghost hunt, for sure.

Great for people who want to learn to ghost hunt!
I'm a big fan of the TV show Ghost Adventures and also Paranormal Challenge. I saw that Dave Shrader recommended this book so I said why not. I'm a beginner ghost hunter and I thought this book would be a great investment. The book has great tips on what technology to use and my favorite part was the do's and dont's on ghost hunting. I actually took this book on my first ghost hunt last Thursday. I used the tips and prayers in the book and it was really helpful. I also want to point out that the book has some humor in it which makes it more enjoyable to read. Thanks for a great book and I'll be sure to use the tips for my next ghost hunt!

My son has been investigating with us starting earlier this year and so I ordered this book for him. I read it before turning it over to him, and found it to be a quick read with great information and instruction. My son, who doesn't read and would rather just play video games, also read the whole thing, without much prodding. I would strongly recommend this book to parents who have kids who are curious or investigating already.

The Other Side a Teens Guide to Ghost Hunting and the Paranormal
I think this book is very well written for not only teens interested in the paranormal, but for beginning adults getting into the field. It is not long, boring and technical. It is to the point, interesting and informative.The book also stresses all the things not to do . It is a responsibly written book for young adults and interesting and informative for older adults as well

A Great Read!
I purchased this book for my teenage daughter, and when she was finished with it, I read it from cover to cover. Lots of great information and tips, all presented in a witty, and often humorous manner. A must have for fledgling paranormal investigators, as well as a good refresher for the more experienced.

Geisterjagen leicht gemacht
In den USA gibt es "Paranormale Ermittler" wie Sand am Meer. Einige von ihnen haben es zu Ruhm durch ihre Fernsehsendungen gebracht, darunter "Ghost Hunters" oder "Ghost Adventures". Den Jungs von "Ghost Adventures" stand bei ihren Ermittlungen immer mal wieder Dave Schrader zur Seite, Co-Autor dieses Buches. Er weiß also, wovon er schreibt. Das Buch ist für Teenager verfasst, liest sich daher sehr leicht. Aber es ist interessant und wirklich hilfreich für all jene, die selbst einmal schauen wollen, ob es Geister gibt oder nicht. Die Autoren gehen mit einer gehörigen Portion Skepsis an die Sache ran, informieren den Leser darüber, dass Geisterjagen zumeist langweilig ist, weil man vor allem wartet, wartet, wartet und nur die wenigsten Ereignisse wirklich paranormal sind. Sie geben Empfehlungen ab, was man bei einer Ermittlung tragen sollte (z. B. keinen Schmuck, da er Licht reflektieren könnte), welche elektronischen Geräte nützlich sein könnten, wie man Vorabgespräche mit Leuten führt, die einen Geist bei sich im Haus vermuten etc. Hier geht es nicht darum, den Gedanken, dass es Geister gibt, zu verstärken, sondern einen realistischen Blick für scheinbar paranormale Ereignisse zu entwickeln. Das Buch ist kurzweilig und informativ. Für Einsteiger bestens geeignet.
