Our "H" board doesn't have double sided screw holes in it! Help

I ordered the same unit. I found that the top and bottom parts DO NOT CONNECT. The top just sits on the bottom part. I am not sure I like it for safety purpose reasons, but it does make it easier to move, however it is less stable and sturdy. Once the top is on and standing, the little shelves fit perfectly and the shelf does it job well. But I was shocked that the 2 parts don't connect to make the unit 1 big sturdy thing. I thought about putting 2 or 3 brackets on the back to hold the 2 pieces together and the bracket would be out of sight, but haven't done that yet.

How many larger, Clamshell case VHS tapes will this hold?

Is the color close to black? Does it come in black? From far away does it look like it could be black?

The color is Expresso as advertised. I do not know if it comes in black elsewhere. Depending on your lighting conditions, it could look black. The expresso color is a very dark color. The room that I currently have it in has dim lighting, so it appears to be black. It sits next to a walnut colored entertainment center giving it that appearance. I currently have one of the shelves on my leg, and I'm wearing black sweat pants. You can tell its dark brown.I suppose if you are good with woodwork, you could always paint or stain it black.
