About 3 episodes in my cheeks were flaming scarlet and I found myself wondering if it was TV nonsense to raise viewership and maybe the books would be more reasonable. Well... they weren't. If flagrant and seeming WAAAYYYY excessive and DETAILED sex scenes aren't for you, you may have to pass on this series. I read the books despite them, not for them. I found these stories to be so well told, the characters so compelling that I stuck with them and enjoyed them immensely. The only disappointment being that the last book wasn't ready yet when I was ready for it. Skill of writing and presentation of this particular world, beyond 5 of 5. Would I recommend them to others? Yes based on the story. But not without significant qualifiers and consideration of who I was recommending them to. But the stories are great. I usually read the books before the show or the movie but in this case I discovered the books because of the series. I am obsessed with both now!!! This is one case of the TV series very accurately paying homage in a way that stays true to the books and Diana Gabaldon's epic vision and imaginative world she has created. I am ahead in the books than where the series is so far and I love being able to discover what will happen to my beloved Jamie and Claire and not having to wait until next season. I can't put these books down! I go from one right into the next with many a night spent reading on my tablet until the wee hours of the morning only stopping when sleep cannot be staved off and my eyelids lose the battle against my desire to read just one more chapter! These books have just the right mixture of fantasy, romance, action, and historical fiction and everything is underlined by the epic love story of Jamie and Claire. There is a colorful and complex set of subplots and supporting characters who almost could warrant their own story lines and separate books. Diana's world is so carefully and well crafted it could go on forever. She could continue to peel back the layers of her other characters and mythic world into an endless series of books and stories as she has already begun to do with some of the spin-off stories like with the Lord John books. I love Diana's writing style and her world and I am so happy to have found the Outlander universe through the books and the TV show which, thankfully, is staying true to her vision and voice.

Love the series so I wanted to know more about the characters. Outlander fans this is a great buy. I purchased books 1-8.

Books 5-8 in the Outlander series. Amazing books that you do not want to miss.
These are books 5-8 in the outlander series by Diana Gabaldon. They are amazing! They are a mis of historically accurate mixed with fiction. And the love story between the characters is as always, heart melting and passionate. The outlander book series are by far my favorite books.

This series is almost UN-put-downable!!
The plot situations (lots of them) are imaginative and very interesting. The writing is clear and precise. The characterizations bring the characters to life, and make their motives understandable. The research appears to be excellent, with only minor discrepancies that I can tell. I started this series at the beginning and was unable to resist any of the first four novels, so I bought the bundle for the last four, and I have not been disappointed. If you don't mind being captivated by interesting characters, situations, and good writing you will not be disappointed either!
