HEFTMAN Fermenting Jars

What great fermentation jars, I didn't expect them to be as strong and large for the excellent price ,I'm really pleased with them and recommend these to anyone wanting a great jar! They arrived really well packaged and within the time stated ,well happy !

I am new to fermentation so wanted an easy jar to start. These jars are just that and they are the best priced comparable jars. Using a cold sterilization (diluted Milton 15ml in 4L) and 4 rinses followed by air dry and time in an oven at 130C I got going with a Kimchi, Sauerkraut then these pickled cucumbers. The jars are heavy and worth making sure the lids are fully on and your hands are dry when handling to avoid dropping. When sterilising DO NOT use boiling water in these. Even when using a metal spoon etc to equalize the temperature between water and glass, the glass is so thick that cracking will occur. Another reviewer noted this - and I also made this mistake. If you want to boil or heat to sterilise DO raise the temp gradually from cold. The plastic and silicone lids are great allowing for gasses and liquids to overflow if needed when fermentation starts - without causing explosions! And lids and glass being neutral material there is no risk of corrosion or metal contamination. These are all food safe , BPA free and lead free. Jovela were a great and responsive supplier.

Work well but this is my second order as I poured hot water into a jar to sterilise and it cracked and completely broke in two so beware. Doesn't come with any instructions regarding care so I hand wash as it does not state if dishwasher safe.

I read the reviews about these breaking but went ahead and I'm really glad I did. I sterilize with Milton and had a batch of red cabbage with garlic and caraway seeds going for 3 weeks. It's gorgeous, really tangy and very tasty. My first lot with white cabbage was ok, but not as good as red cabbage. According to taste obviously.. The jars leaked quite a bit when fermenting started but that is good news. I put mine in a tray so no probs. I put weights in and topped up to keep it going. Really easy to do and no worries about burping the jars. Very happy with the results and my gut is too. Great jars.

EDIT: I initally recieved the jars with no lids. After contacting the seller, they asked for a photo of how it was packaged. They immediately sent me a new set which arrived the next day. Excellent customer service! I've now started my milk kefir journey. They were much larger than I expected, but that allows plenty of room for my grains to grow. That's the plan, fingers crossed! They are good quality thick jars that came out of the dishwaher in perfect condition. For the price, they are excellent value for money too.

These looked perfect for what I wanted, but sadly on first use trying to activate kefir grains, one of them has cracked and broken. I am unable to contact the seller directly about this which adds to the frustration!

These jars are so easy to use and are great for fermenting relatively large amounts of sauerkraut or kimchi. Simply put in your veg and other ingredients, according to the recipe, and forget about it for a couple of weeks. So much safer and easier than using jars with sealed rims that require burping daily, and therefore allow in air (plus airborne bacteria & mould). They also look highly attractive on the kitchen worktop packed with brightly coloured veg. These jars are perfect for adopting a healthy probiotic diet. Everyone should try this as a cheap way to make fermented foods and drinks that are otherwise highly priced to purchase. Whatever you do, don’t sterilise them with boiling water as they crack. I learnt this the hard way but was incredibly impressed by the customer service of this company as they very kindly and quickly sent me a replacement when I explained what I’d done. This level of customer service is incredibly rare, so where’s the 6th star option?

What more can I say. They are a great idea and well designed with the wide top and the lid etc. They even look nice. But I've now had two of these just break while fermenting kraut and kimchi. they both cracked at the base, under very normal use. Have I been very unlucky? I broke another one because it slipped out of my hand. We will see how long number 4 lasts... I think it makes sense to look for stronger jars.
