A Robust, Speedy Solution for Intense Photography Needs
Being a parent and the designated photographer for my daughter's high school cheer squads, I was inundated with a deluge of high-resolution photos that demanded substantial storage and a swift, reliable solution for processing and post-production. This specific need led me to the SanDisk Professional 5TB G-DRIVE ArmorATD. To begin with, the G-DRIVE ArmorATD's USB-C connectivity was the perfect answer to my speed concerns. The drive’s high transfer rates were instrumental in uploading gigs of photos at a time - a task it performed without any hitch. As a Mac user, compatibility was a breeze, and I was pleased to find the drive integrated smoothly with my computer. Furthermore, I use Adobe Lightroom for my post-processing requirements. With the SanDisk Professional G-DRIVE, the read/write speeds were impressive, helping to speed up my workflow significantly. The drive proved robust enough to handle the demands of heavy editing, even with multiple large RAW files. On top of its performance, I was immediately struck by the solid, rugged construction of the drive. The G-DRIVE ArmorATD is built like a tank and gives a sense of reliability. Knowing that this drive is designed to resist shock and survive a reasonable amount of wear and tear puts me at ease, especially considering the precious memories it houses. The convenience of having a single cord for power and data transfer, provided by the USB-C cable, can't be overstated. The single-cable design means less clutter, more straightforward connectivity, and one less thing to worry about losing or forgetting at a crucial time. In conclusion, the SanDisk Professional 5TB G-DRIVE ArmorATD has checked all my boxes for an external storage solution. It is fast, durable, and ideally suited for high-volume photography and post-production work. I wholeheartedly recommend it to photographers looking for a dependable and swift external drive solution.

Couldn't get it to read (fixed)
Received the package at my door. Everything was in good condition. Plugged into my computer and it would not show up as a drive. It showed up under printer. Could not get to show on 2 business laptops and my home computer even after checking that the drivers were installed and updated. *Google search* G-Technology Format Wizard. Everything works great now.

Whisper quiet, fast, rugged hard drive.
This Hard Drive is great. The enclosure build quality is great and you get very good speeds for a HDD. If you need super high speeds, obviously get an SSD. However, I purchased this drive for backups, photos, videos, and other large archival data purposes, so ~160 MB/s is plenty. The drive is whisper quiet compared to most other drives and you cannot hear it unless you are within a couple inches. While the price might not be the best, the performance and quality are excellent. Some people have had problems detecting the drive, but this can be easily fixed by logging in to an Administrator account on in Windows and searching "Create and format partitions". You will be able to see the disk here. The drive is formatted for Mac by default, but can be used in Windows and Linux if you delete the partition and reformat the drive (I formatted with NTFS since I use Windows and Linux). Note that you will first need to delete the existing partition using an Administrator session of Command Prompt. If you are unsure how to do this, there are many tutorials on how to do this using the "diskpart" command. Once the partition is deleted you can then format normally from the partition manager. I also appreciate that the drive comes with both USB-C to USB-C and USB-C to USB-A cables.

Very disappointed.
Because I already had used a G 5T drive previously, I went onto Amazon to order another. The first one I purchased over a year ago, gave me absolutely no issues. I ordered the second one via Amazon, paid over $400 total, received the order from Amazon, but didn't need to use it for a couple of months. It sat unopened on my shelf in my office for a couple of months. I finally opened the box and attempted to use it. The device did not work. No hum, no whir, nothing. It had already gone past the window to return it to Amazon, unfortunately. I did reach out to the manufacturer who said to go ahead and return it to them and they would replace. I did not receive a promised shipping label, and was requested to send via UPS. I paid for shipping and insurance. When I received the first replacement drive, it completely fell apart as soon as I took it out of the shipping box. There was a broken panel on the end of the drive,, and everything slid right out of the casing. The drive was clearly, already damaged before it was packaged and sent to me, based upon the broken pieces. I contacted the manufacturer again and sent them the photos. They agreed to replace this item also. Because the drive was broken, and out of what was supposed to be its protective casing, I could see the manufacturers date of 2023 on the drive. I could also see it was a used drive. I began to wonder if this was sent back by a previous owner and then it was going to be passed on to the next vulnerable consumer who complained about their own purchase/ warranty. Well today, I received another replacement. And I am still disappointed. I noticed that I was not given a new item as a replacement for the original item, or its replacement. I believed that for the price of almost $400, the item should be brand new and working. And if sold via Amazon or its affiliates, the items would be brand new, unless posted as otherwise. This purchase was a very expensive item and I just can't express my frustration over this business nonsense. I did attempt to contact the manufacturers via their email, and it was returned to me "Undeliverable". The phone number didn't work either. Before this purchase, I was pleased with the 1st drive I bought. But I have now lost my faith and confidence. I am out the cost of the purchase, the cost of the shipment of that drive back to manufacturer, and now a risk of using a faulty used drive that had been rebuilt.

Won't drop it to test endurance. I trust that it will do as expected if that happens by acciddent
I've purchased 4 of these devices before. Unfortunately, the last two I bought (One of them here, on Amazon) are VERY slow in the data transfer. So far, I am satisfied with them, because none of them has failed me (as have other models, with a non-rugged case) this far. I cannot report on performance after a drop, though, because I am as careful not to drop them, as I am not to drop those with a normal case.

Great drive
It looks better than the LaCie drives, which are starting to fail after only a few years. Let's see how well it holds up over time.

4K footage repository👍🏽
I’ve had this hard drive for about two years. It really works great and has lots of storage. It’s not the fastest thing on the block, but if you’re looking to hold your digital content, this drive does the trick one nice feature is that it is very portable and have bus run power.

Solid as a rock
Had problems with La Cie in the past, tried a Silicon Power (which quickly developed connection issues), but after a couple of months this thing has been solid as a rock. Getting real-world 120MB/s transfer speeds which is about as good as you can hope for with a HDD. Note you *can* remove the rubber part if you want (I saw some online reviews that said you couldn't).

Excellent Storage
This small but well designed and built may be, to date, the best miniature backup drive I have owned. At 5TB it is not exactly small but it certainly met my needs.

Very pleased so far. good purchase.
Not sure what had happened to my previous G-Drive, just stopped working , but it was old and probably full. I needed a new backup device for my MacBook. Plugged it in, laptop initialised it automatically and about half an hour later the back up was complete. I don't intend dropping it, but if I do, I like its protective rubber casing. Before ordering I was careful to select the model and size I needed, eg. USB, not SSD or Thunderbolt, and 1T. If it lasts as long as the other one, i will be happy.
