In The Science and Technology of Growing Young , industry investor and insider Sergey Young demystifies the longevity landscape, cutting through the hype and showing readers what they can do now to live better for longer, and offering a look into the exciting possibilities that await us. By viewing aging as a condition that can be cured, we can dramatically revolutionize the field of longevity and make it accessible for everyone. Join Sergey as he gathers insights from world-leading health entrepreneurs, scientists, doctors, and inventors, providing a comprehensive look into the future of longevity in two horizons: The Near Horizon of Longevity identifies the technological developments that will allow us to live to 150โsome of which are already in useโfrom AI-based diagnostics to gene editing and organ regeneration. The Far Horizon of Longevity offers a tour of the future of age reversal, and the exciting technologies that will allow us to live healthily to 200, from Internet of Bodies to digital avatars to AI-brain integration. In a bonus chapter, Sergey also showcases 10 longevity choices that we already know and can easily implement to live to 100, distilling the science behind diet, exercise, sleep, mental health, and our environments into attainable habits and lifestyle hacks that anyone can adopt to vastly improve their lives and workplaces. Combining practical advice with an incredible overview of the brave new world to come, The Science and Technology of Growing Young redefines what it means to be human and to grow young. Review: Great information about the near and distant future of longevity research - This book has twelve main chapters, and about 211 pages in the digital version. The Foreword is written by by Peter Diamandis and Ray Kurzweil, two people that have written extensively about how technology will change our lives in the future. They explain Sergey Young's unique perspective as an investor in cutting-edge technology, and how his Age Reversal XPRIZE will encourage future scientific breakthroughs in the field of longevity research. In the first chapter, Young introduces the concept of โlongevity escape velocityโ, or the point at which our ability to extended the average human lifespan outpaces the passage of time. He points out that currently we add about one or two years of life expectancy every decade; but with some new medical technologies this could rapidly increase to even one year per year, at which point lifespans will be drastically increased. There is even the potential to โreverseโ some things currently associated with aging. In the next few chapters Young discusses prevention of premature death, age reversal, and life extension; and what is currently being developed in each of these fields. Young mentions advances in AI diagnosing disease, genetic engineering, tissue regeneration, and increased health data collection. He explains different โtheories of agingโ, and identifies ten specific hallmarks of aging. Young explores the near future of DIY diagnostic devices, precision AI medicine, and using new technologies like CRISPR for gene editing. He describes advances in stem cell therapy, tissue regeneration, and new drugs and supplements. In the last few chapters Young focuses on the more distant future, discussing future advances that will lead to even greater advances in lifespan. Young mentions bionic limbs, nanobots, avatars, brain emulation, and uploading consciousness. Another chapter discusses the potential moral questions that might arise from becoming virtually immortal. Finally, the last bonus chapter gives a list of 10 things to do right now to help increase your longevity. Overall this was an inspirational and informative book, that really sparks the imagination about what will eventually be possible. Since Young is not really a scientist, he doesn't go into extensive detail about most of these ideas, rather giving a surface explanation of the current research; but it is a good starting point to do your own research if you are interested. I enjoyed reading this book, and it started me on a journey of reading more about some of the most recent advances in some of these fields. Fascinating, comprehensive, & easy to understand guide on how to live longer, healthier lives.
This was a great read from start to finish. Sergey interviews the best longevity researchers and experts in the world, and shares their views on how science will extend our healthy lifespan. It may sound like science fiction at first, but it's clear that we are on the verge of a longevity revolution. Each chapter is full of cutting-edge science and leading experts who are enabling cures for diseases of aging, and pioneering the next frontier in health and medicine. Sergey also shares helpful, science-backed tips on how we can take steps in our everyday lives to extend healthy longevity for ourselves and loved ones. Even better, Sergey presents all of these facts in an approachable, logical way that will have everyone excited about what the future holds--and that in the near future, science will find ways to slow, and even reverse, aging. This visionary book was incredibly fun and engaging. So much so, it was requested by several friends and family members; so I ordered more copies. The Science and Technology of Growing Young is highly recommended for anyone who is wants to enjoy a longer, healthier, fuller life for themselves and their loved ones.

An excellent look at the future of medicine
Sergey Young is an investment specialist that invests only in companies that are working to increase the age to which humans can live without getting the diseases of old age like cancer, failing kidneys, diabetes, etc. He has talked with the leaders of these businesses to get an idea of where they are headed in the future then with a casual, easy to read style, he relays this information to the reader. The book is broken into two major sections. The first part discusses things that are available today to delay illness of all types and increase lifespan above the 100 year mark while the second part looks into a crystal ball and makes some bold predictions about living to 200 years of age or longer. Sergey explains why all the concerns around overpopulation and other resource problems are not really a problem and even goes on to explain how these things will be avoided. In short, the book while somewhat scary in places, is actually an optimistic look at the future of medicine. I look forward to the world he describes and I have already implemented in my own life some of the things he describes . According to many, including Sergey, we will soon reach "Escape velocity" where the lifespan of humans is increasing by more than one year for each year we live. He explains how this is possible by citing some examples of what seem be amazing results. At least they are amazing to me. While not all of the following items are described in the book, there are injectable robots that cause hemophiliac's blood to clot when the skin is damaged. It is possible to grow a new human kidney that is not rejected when implanted. Robotic prosthesis are available which allow quadriplegics to walk and it has been shown possible to regrow a functioning human breast to replace one removed due to cancer. All these things are possible today and the price is falling so they will be available to many more people in the future. If you are at all interested in the future of medicine, living disease free, or living longer, This book is for you.

Interesting concept - but not as I expected
Easy to read. Interesting concept. Really basic information. He offers a few practical aspects all of which are published in wellness magazines, fasting, sleep well, exercise....

Fascinating and inspiring stories about the promise of longevity science
This book is jam-packed cover-to-cover with fascinating and inspiring stories about the researchers, entrepreneurs, doctors, patients, investors, and others who really believe that human beings can live healthy, productive lives to age 150, 200, or even forever. If that sounds hokey, buy the book, and be convinced otherwise! You will find yourself not only rooting for the crazy characters who are trying to cure cancer, grow replacement organs in a lab, discover/develop "longevity pills," and even upload your consciousness to the cloud, but actually believing that those things may be possibleโin our lifetime! This book is easy to read, even for people like me, with no real scientific background ("I laughed, I cried!") I like that it also addresses head-on the ethics of long-life (worries about overpopulation, wealth disparity, power-hoarding, etc) in general as well as the ethics of specific areas like genetic editing and stem-cell therapy. The "bonus chapter" with practical longevity tips for what you can do now doesn't have anything particularly new to those who know this field, but even if you are already health/longevity-minded, it's a good review, with a very clear explanation about how/why fasting and vigorous exercise, etc support longevity. The best part of this book for me is that I now have endless conversation starters/ fascinating stories to tell: The kid who lived and (even played basketball) for over one year without a heart...the transgender woman who is creating replacement lungs from pigs...the geneticist who is bringing the woolly mammal back from extinction...the little girl who had a medicine developed JUST for her...the permanently paralyzed surfer who went from being suicidal to walking again...and so on, and so on, and so on...!

Star Longevity: A New Hope
Sergeyโs optimistic entry into the world of rejuvenation technologies is a refreshing step forward. Mostly because heโs not trying to endlessly sell you something every chapter, unlink the plethora of material from the bio hacking community. Instead, he present a hopeful view of what is and more importantly whatโs to come. He provides the evidence and lists extensively his sources. He boils it down to the basics. Sure, he glosses over many of the new tech glitches such as the OWL infant smart socks that help monitor and detect SIDS. Sounds great until they start giving false reading in the middle of the night that your childโs heart has stopped beating. But the goal of this book is being positive for the future, and being ready for these new emerging therapies. Most importantly, truly wrapping your head around the idea that healthy lifespan extension is coming, and in some cases already here. If you dig this read, then check out his Longevity Academy and his Ask Me Anything video podcasts where he hosts interviews with the brainy main players in the longevity movement.

Longevity is a big topic
As a fan of living longer and healthier, I've been following Sergey Young on social media for a while, specifically on LinkedIn. His articles are insightful and helpful for those who are seeking to improve their physical and mental abilities so when I saw that he was writing a book I was very interested. So I pre-ordered it a few weeks ago and received my copy yesterday. I've read 2 chapters the first day I received the book and am looking forward to finishing it. There are a lot of actionable items that will help anyone be healthier today BUT more importantly his vision of the future of longevity science is very exciting and encouraging.

An important book to understand the upcoming longevity revolution
Sergey does an amazing job summarizing the scientific achievements of the past few years in the longevity space and what we could expect in the near and long term horizons in terms of innovation. He also addresses the consequences of a potential human immortality with its impact on population growth, societies, etc... Read it over the week-end, strongly recommend to anyone interested in the space or willing to challenge himself/herself on the future of humanity.

Futuristic book
This book has all the reasons why we all will live to 200 years of age in the future. After reading this book, I have no doubt that one day technology will be so advanced that living to 200 would be considered completey normal. We would have nano robots to scan and monitor our blood, 3D printed organs and hi-tech beds designed to give us the exact hours of deep delta wave sleep that we precisely need.
