Because our 21 pound miniature schnauzer got a little scrape on his leg that he wouldn't let heal, we had to make the unpopular decision to cone our little guy. We got him a medium comfy cone and it was a perfect fit to protect him from himself and his impassioned licking. He wore the comfy cone for about a month, had no problems sleeping with it on, and very few issues (addressed below) with it. While our pup has used the inflatable travel pillow-like "cone, but not a cone" in the past, because of the spot where he was licking that the travel pillow wouldn't block, we knew he needed a real cone this time. Our dog LOVES sleeping in very human-like poses - on his back, resting in a pillow, passed out in a seated position in front of the TV - so we knew that a hard cone wouldn't work well for him. While he didn't love it when we put on the comfy cone, he didn't hate it. He had no problems sleeping with it at all and it did the job to protect him. He could kind of eat and drink with it on (the struggle was very real), but the sleeping and protection made it totally worth it for us and him. Our dog occasionally buries his food and water first with his imagination, which was kind of a hilarious dump truck-like disaster sometimes with the cone. It made his cone smell like dog food and he got a questionable amount of food into his mouth because he's not very good at negotiating angles or figuring out alternate routes in general. It's definitely possible to eat with the comfy cone on because he did it many times over the course of the month looking like a possessed and hungry funnel, but your mileage may vary. In dog world, I think of the cone like a medical device. The relative rating is more about the function than anything. For people, if you broke your arm and got a cast, it'd be tough to ever give a cast 5 stars because you're pretty annoyed the whole time, but if it did the job like it was supposed to and did it well in a sucky situation, that's pretty much a 5 star product. That's how we thought of the comfy cone. I think this is a great product overall, but here are some of the key points that I can think of: USAGE - Because we attach our leash to our dog's collar, we didn't weave his collar through the cone. It was a lot faster and more reasonable to velcro it around his head separately from his collar. - We only had our dog wear his comfy cone in the house. Because it's so opaque, it was pretty disorienting for him to wear on walks and made him walk really weird. We gave up on that very quickly. Luckily, it only takes a second to take this off and put it back on. GOOD STUFF - Easy to put on and take off your dog's head using the velcro. It's seriously simple, even if you don't weave it through your dog's collar. - Velcro is a lot more secure than you'd think. Our pup only wriggled himself out of the cone one time in a month, which was probably because we put it on too loosely. - Dogs can really sleep with in it on. Our guy really didn't care. He passed out like a little portable satellite dish . - Material doesn't scratch the dog's neck. - Protects really well as long as your dog doesn't have a really long nose. - Pretty easy to store. We went on a trip and had to bring the comfy cone with us - no big deal. - Outer material on edge is a little reflective. We didn't really have our guy wear his cone outside after the first couple days, but it was kind of cool to see. - If you get a medium size and up, you can wear it on your neck and make some funny jokes. Your dog will appreciate the shared experience. NOT SO GOOD STUFF - Dogs are not big fans of the velcro sound. We went with the band-aid "TEAR IT OFF AS FAST AS YOU CAN" method instead of drawing out the sounds for best results. - Because it's made of similar material to a winter jacket, it will pick up about 25% of smells. Our pup is pretty stinky and the cone didn't get really bad. However, if you have your dog wear the cone on walks, it will probably get stinky because the cone will be all up in the dirt, brushing up on plants with pee on them, etc. - Because it's opaque, your dog has no peripheral vision. There will be some disorientation in the beginning, but our guy calmed down pretty fast. - Like any cone, if you crate your dog, it will be an adventure for them to get in wearing this comfy cone. - If you have a lot of stairs or doggy stairs in your house, there will be some missteps where your dog hits his face on the stairs and gets really discouraged. - Like any cone, eating may be a mess. - It's not a perfect circle. Ours would sometimes end up as a triangle, sometimes a square, but it always did the job!

absolutely pleased with this product. (size small for 13lb cat and could not have been any smaller and fit) lots of attention to detail and over-engineering. would have paid twice the price and still considered it a bargain. my cat really does notice the difference between this and the several other's i have tried. he relaxes way more with it on than the others.. it is obviously more comfortable for him. the loops for the collar.. the removable stays.. the cover for the unused velcro strip.. the tab closure.. all well thought out. this collar is leaps and bounds above the others, and i have tried 4 different ones in addition to the comfy collar. being able to fold back the collar so the cat can eat and drink absolutely does work. you can leave in all the stays or just leave in the ones that suit your cat's purpose. or leave them all out. this collar is totally configurable for your cat's situation. i suspect some of the neg reviews are due to overall frustration from having an animal that needs something like this in the first place. true sizing can be a challenge, but that is not due to design, but to the physiological diversity of cats in general. hey if it doesn't fit, go to the next size. it is obviously a challenge for all brands, as i see none have a 5 star rating. the comfy collar deserves a 5 star rating, though.. it really does. this is not just some cheap peace of flat plastic. as for the visibility issue.. meh. my cat could see no better with the "clear" collars (which are not truly visibility clear - look thru one and see). he acted no different from having the blurry vision which the clear collars offer and the opacity of the comfy collar. regarding the collar being heavy.. i just don't see it. this collar weighs no more than the other four flat plastic collars i purchased. my cat holds his head up just as high with this one as the others. actually, since he is more comfortable in the comfy collar, his movements and posture are more natural. of course, no cat wearing any kind of a head covering is going to be his normal graceful self. cats will always exaggerate the effect of anything added to their body. i paired the comfy collar with a cat harness. what a great system. you can leave the comfy collar more loose around the neck because it is connected to the harness via loops. just perfect. and unlike one other reviewer, it was simple for me to remove and replace the stays while the cat was wearing the collar. you just have to push them from the opposite end from the exit hole. one custom addition i did have to add (and i would likes to see comfy collar come up with something like this) was a neck band below the collar to prevent neck scratching. my cat was scratching his neck raw. i just took a cottage cheese tub and cut the bottom off and put it around his neck.. then put the comfy collar on. the bell of the tub rides on his shoulder and the comfy collar kind of just funnels in to the other end of the tub. the tub thingy is loose enough that it just spins when he scratches it, yet will not come off because of how the comfy collar bells out. anyway it solved the neck scratching problem. i know the folks at comfy collar could come up with something way better than my poor idea.. maybe a little wide band type collar made out of the same material as the comfy that velcros in place and used in conjunction with their collar... or maybe an extension that velcros into place. anyway, the comfy plus harness and my tub has my cat on the mend! i very highly recommend this solution for your cat or dog.

I was sort of conflicted about this product at first. In fact, after using it for the first two days, I had initiated the return process on Amazon, but ultimately decided to keep it. I like a lot of things about this product, but also have some reservations about it. We have a ~30lb, 7 year old Beagle mix who recently had TPLO surgery to remedy a torn Cranial Crucial Ligament in his knee which occurred after one especially enthusiastic afternoon combating the back yard squirrel menace. We bought this in the medium size to make his weeks of crate rest perhaps slightly more comfortable while the stitches are still in. In my view, this is where the product really shines. With the plastic cone, his ability to move inside the crate, and find a comfortable position was very limited. The plastic cone was constantly knocking into the sides, getting caught on the bars, and generally made what should be a sufficiently large crate seem much too small. This soft cone is much more forgiving and less restrictive in that regard. Even if he bumps it into the crate as he turns around, it doesn't knock him back or make loud noises which frighten, him like the plastic cone did. He seems to tolerate being crated much better while wearing this. I also love how it can be folded back for trips outside, so he isn't constantly catching it on the ground. Our dog is pretty particular about his bathroom habits, and this feature really made things go smoother in that regard. In fact, when the cone is folded back, he doesn't seem to mind it any more than a regular collar - you can definitely tell that his mood improves the same way whether it is folded back or taken off entirely. Of course, folding it back gives him easy access to the incision - it's just much quicker to unfold it than put it back on him when he does try to lick himself. However, there is one major issue with the product which owners need to be aware of. The actual length of the medium cone seems to be about an inch too short for a dog his size. His nose does stick out just past the end of the cone. The first day we put it on him while he was still sort of loopy from anesthesia, everything seemed to work as intended. However, on that second day, the dog started to get his wits about him again, and figured out how to contort his body into the corner of the crate, fold the edge of the cone back by hooking it with his rear leg, and was then able to reach the incision. We were a bit surprised at this - he is not a long or especially limber dog. After seeing him do this twice within a few hours, we started using the plastic cone again for unsupervised crating. That's when I initiated the return to Amazon. However, in the meantime, we kept using the comfy cone for going outside, and for when he was supervised, and after a few days of this, he seems to have stopped fighting it. I think that using the plastic cone for a while sort of convinced him that licking the wound was generally a losing battle, so he doesn't do it as aggressively in either cone now. Or he forgot the trick he used the first time. To be clear - except for the one scenario where he used the corner of the cage to perform his gymnastics, the comfy cone has defeated all other attempts we have seen at licking the incision, and we now allow him to wear it unsupervised (though we tend to sedate when we are at work all day). As another user stated, I think that it takes a proper introduction and some initial supervision for this product to work well. Another small gripe - the elastic bands which are used to hold the cone to the collar are too small for anything but a very narrow collar. The do not slide around the collar freely, and cause the collar to bunch as the dog moves around. This seemed to be uncomfortable to the dog as well, so we eventually stopped using the loops entirely. He seems to be more comfortable like this, and less likely to fight the cone, which might explain why it has been working better since we stopped trying to use it with a collar. Generally, this is a great product, but I wish the sides were just a bit longer. It seems that on a slightly smaller dog, it would work perfectly, but he is right between sizes where the medium is slightly too small, but the large would be way too big, and would defeat the purpose of the less invasive cone.

My young, boisterous Plott hound is recovering from some fancy eye surgery, so e-collars have been of great interest around here. I've tried two of the soft collars, and the Comfy Cone is definitely the better choice. In fact. reading some of the reviews (and the description), I have the sneaking feeling that some of them may actually refer to the soft collar I didn't like -- the ProCone. If you've ever used the classic hard e-collar, you know what a nightmare it can be -- it's like strapping a bulldozer to your dog's head, the acoustics are horrible for the dog's sensitive ears, and sleeping, lying down, etc, get complicated. So any soft e-collar should be an improvement over the classic. I had ordered the Comfy Cone, but was worried it wouldn't arrive on time, so called a big-box pet store to see if they had it in stock. They said they did, so I asked a friend to pick it up on the way to my house. Turned out it was NOT the Comfy Cone, but the ProCone -- I think maybe "Comfy Cone" has become the generic term for all soft e-collars, like "Kleenex" is used to refer to all facial tissues, or "Google" all search engines. I was glad to have it, because in fact the Comfy did not arrive in time, and used the Pro for 5 days after surgery til I could get to the PO to pick up the Comfy. The ProCone was a LOT better than nothing, but I spent as much vigilance making sure the collar did not injure the surgical site as making sure the dog was okay. The Comfy, on the other hand, is pretty much perfect -- all the shortcomings of the Pro are addressed in the Comfy. The Comfy has lots of body, while still being soft and flexible -- that means it stands away from the dog's head (and ears), which is important if what you want to protect is the dog's head. It has two levels of body -- the cone itself is made of foam panels covered in ripstop, rather like an outdoorsy padded bra, so it keeps its round shape and does not droop. There's a nice side effect of all the padding, too -- even the most vigorous scratching with toenails does not translate to the dog's head. The Pro just has a double layer of ripstop between its stays, which lets nails, sharp corners, etc, have much more effect on the dog's head. The Comfy also comes with three removable stays which make it more rigid front-to-back. Having spent a lot of time wrestling with the unfortunate effect of the stays in the ProCone (snagging on every obstacle, making hard spots inside the collar to rub against the surgical site), I removed the Comfy's stays immediately, and have been very pleased with the result -- plenty of body, even for my crazy pup. But I would probably have been glad of them in the first few days after surgery, when the incision was at its most delicate and my dog was learning to use the collar and doing a lot of bumping into things. The ProCone also has a real tendency to droop between its stays, which lets the cone flop in and hug the dog's head -- it seemed to encourage sleep, but also rubbed the surgical site and compressed my dog's ears unless I arranged it exactly right -- with the overlap from fastening (the stiffest part of the collar) on top of my dog's head. Of course, that's the heaviest side of the collar, so keeping it uppermost requires constant fiddling. It also makes the bottom side of the cone behave kind of like a scoop, since it tends to hang down so far. The Comfy, by contrast, creates even more room around the head and ears when the dog lies down, because it keeps its round cross-section, stands nicely away from the surgical site, and also stands free of the ears. Both collars are made so they use your dog's normal collar as an anchor -- though the ProCone comes threaded onto a webbing strap with a velcro closure as anchor. Even in this minor aspect, the Comfy beats the Pro -- it has wide, strong elastic loops that really grip the collar and make it an integral part of the assembly, while the Pro has thin, round elastic cord which lets the cone move around relative to the dog's collar -- I found this especially irritating while trying to keep the close-over side of the Pro on top of my dog's head so the cone would keep its shape a little better. The Comfy costs a little more than the ProCone, at least in standard retail price, but skimping on the e-collar is a false economy, IMO -- when you've dropped a couple thousand dollars on the surgery, spending an extra ten bucks to make sure it heals properly just makes sense. It'll also let you sleep through the night, too, instead of having to cat-nap while you make sure the e-collar doesn't take out the stitches for which you've just paid so handsomely.

This is pawsome! The first cone that prevents licking and is versatile. The bones or ribbing that are removable are a game changer. This allows him to eat, drink water, sniff, etc. The insert with QR code for videos was super helpful. Highly suggest you look at that. This is the only dog cone I'll recommend. It's also easy to clean with soapy water.

This cone arrived on time and was well packaged. I purchased the Xlarge for my 70 lb Golden Retriever and I feel the size was appropriate. The cone is surprisingly thick and soft but does have four bars that run through it to hold it's shape. It has several velcro strips to hold it closed and can be adjusted quite a bit in size. It has tabs on the ends where the neck goes through to attach to the dogs collar. I really like this cone as far as cones go and I will use it again if the need arises, but there are some negatives that caused me to change my mind about using it for the intended purpose this time around. 1) My dog was wearing the standard vet purchased plastic cone that cut into my legs and knocked the paint off the wall. I thought the soft cone would fix that but I found the bars that hold the cones shape also make it stiff on the end of the cone and it hurt just as much when my dog ran into me. 2) The tabs on the neck end of the cone used to attach to the collar can only be attached by a buckle collar that can slip through the tabs and buckle around the dogs neck exactly like a belt goes through pants. My dog wears a martingale collar which has no buckles or snaps so I was not able to attach it to her collar. As soon as I put it on her she immediately pulled it off her head. 3) The inside of this cone is black and that is quite a contrast to the semi see-through cone my dog was wearing. I found when I put this cone on my dog that she became scared because it completely and immediately blocked her peripheral vision. She was used to the feel of the old cone but was not used to her vision being restricted. 4) This cone is hot! My dog was not in it long before I could feel how hot and humid it became around her neck, ears and face. I was concerned about the moisture and heat affecting her ears and her all around comfort. I really like this cone and think it would work well for dogs living in cooler climates and if the dog is allowed the time to adjust to it. In the end I decided to stick with the plastic cone for the duration of my dogs ailment but will give it another try if the need arises in the future.

Received our Comfy Cone two days earlier than expected - very cool! Our poor puppy dog has been suffering with one of those big hard plastic cones of shame for several days, and hating life. She wouldn't eat, had trouble sleeping, and was generally uncomfortable and miserable all day long. She was even getting a plastic rash on the shaved area under her chin, presumably from lying on that cheap plastic for hours. We put her Comfy Cone on and right away, the difference was noticeable. She wanted to go for a walk, and ate food and drank water with gusto, then crashed out for a nap in the sun. Two paws up from our APBT/American Bulldog mix!! Things we like: The Comfy Cone is put on and taken off via Velcro, so it doesn't go over the snout and head like the hideous plastic cones. That's a big plus for us, since one of the healing surgical cuts is on her throat, and the plastic cone scrapes over it. This softer one doesn't ever touch the wound, and seems much more comfy when she lies down on it. We removed the plastic stay 'rods' in order to fold it back a bit so she could eat, and it works beautifully. The Large stays stiff enough to keep its lampshade shape without the plastic rods that we just left them out. That may be because it is brand new. The Large fits her 21" neck perfectly at the largest setting, snug enough to stay on but not choking. I like how it is slightly shorter in length that the gigantic plastic collar, since she has the rather short snout of an American Bulldog. She can see better, and doesn't run into every doorjamb. If your dog has paw/leg wounds and is a flexy/bendy pup, it might be able to reach them in this collar and you might want to get the X-Large for the extra 1.5 inches of length to prevent that. For our 'thick' sausage-shaped pooch, it's not a problem. She can't reach past her waist without an e-collar, so no worries with one (she's not overweight, just very stockily built). Another thing we noticed - the Comfy Cone doesn't seem to amplify sound the same way the cheapo plastic cone did. With the plastic e-collar, our dog kept wincing and turning away if someone spoke too close to her face, and avoided the family room when the TV was on, something she normally never does. Dogs do hear roughly 20 times better than humans, so I guess the plastic cone collected noise and fed it right to her ears at an unpleasant volume. The fabric Comfy Cone doesn't seem to have the same effect, or at least nowhere near the same degree. All the doggy behaviors that indicated "TOO LOUD!" have stopped. Hopefully, she doesn't figure out how to get the edge in her mouth to chew. Another reviewer did mention that this was a problem. Our 70-lb 'baby' makes short work of even those 40-dollar tough toys. Nothing is safe - not even ballistic nylon, black Kongs, or those huge Nylabones. We'll see how the Comfy Cone fares, and report back. It's only been a day, but she seems so relieved to be in a more comfortable collar that chewing it hasn't even occurred to her yet.

Having to wear a cone is never fun, but out of all the ones I've tried this one is by far the easiest. The design is very clever. The panel structure keeps it more compact than other cones so she doesn't bump into things as much, and it seems easier to relax in. I also like that you can cover up any of the Velcro strips you aren't using so that putting it back on every time is easy. Overall, I'm pretty impressed.

Dieser Comfy Cone ist wirklich ein tolles Ding. Aber erstmal etwas Hintergrund: Da unser Fritzi mal wieder Probleme mit seiner Achillessehne hatte, hatte er bis vor kurzem noch einen Verband mit Stützschiene. Das war auch kein Problem. Als aber nur noch der weiche Verband dran kam, war es wieder soweit für den Kegel der Schande. Fritzi kann keinen weichen Verband tragen, weil es bei ihm *immer* scheuert. Nach einem Verband sah sein Bein schon aus, als wäre er zerfleischt worden. Daher läuft er ohne Verband um, und bekommt halt so einen Lampenschirm auf. Bis vor kurzem war es noch der übliche, aus Kunststoff. Diese Dinger, die erstens sowieso schon nervig genug sind, gehen bei uns ihm kaputt, zwar noch nutzbar, aber trotzdem ärgerlich. Wir hatten überlegt ihm einen dieser neuen, mit Schutzkante zu kaufen, die man ohne Halsband befestigen kann. Aber die wären zu schwer wieder abzumachen, damit Herr Fritzi sich im Garten erleichtern kann, denn mit Schirm kann er nicht. Zeit für den Comfy Cone! Erst war ich ja skeptisch, da das Teil ja nicht transparent ist. Aber ich habe es trotzdem mal probiert, und ich bereue es nicht. Fritzi schläft viel besser, und wir sind auch glücklich, dass er nicht mehr alles umrennt (und uns die Kunststoffkante des alten Schirms nicht mehr in die Kniebeuge gerammt wird). Der Schirm ist viel kürzer - das wichtige ist, dass die Schnauze nicht über den Schirm herausragt, dann sollte alles passen. Das messen ist sehr wichtig. Die Länge der Schnauze wird an der Seite des Kopfes, nicht über den Kopf gemessen. Die Reaktion von Fritzi ist auf jeden Fall positiv. Selbst beim Tierarzt ist er viel ruhiger. Anscheinend lebt Fritzi nach dem Motto "Was ich nicht weiss, macht mich nicht heiss" wenn es um die Präsenz anderer Hunde im Wartezimmer geht. Allgemein sind wir sehr, sehr zufrieden. Zusammenfassung: + viel gemütlicher für den Hund + viel weniger schmerzhaft wenn man es dann dochmal in die Kniekehle geschmettert bekommt + hält mehr aus als normale "Lampenschirme" + Durch geringere Länge ist das Interieur der Wohnung etwas sicherer vor dem Heruntergerissen werden. + Reflektierender Rand sorgt for witzige Effekte bei Photos mit Blitz. Und natürlich sehr gut für den Straßenverkehr. ;) +/- die fehlende Transparenz des Materials kann je nach Hund positiv oder negativ sein. Bei unserem war es auf jeden Fall sehr willkommen.

Our dog had developed a nasty allergy to something all around his head and had been scratching so much he was starting to go bald (not to mention the effect on his skin!). We resorted to using a standard plastic 'cone' to stop him scratching as nothing else seemed to work, but he quickly developed an aversion to it - not because of the cone itself, but because he's so little ( a shih tzu) that he bumps into everything and can't see over the edge of it, not to mention the fact that it weighs so much that whichever way his head moves, the cone overbalances it to his max range of movement. On advice from his vet, we looked up the comfy cone and were rather worried by the colour, since he's a rescue dog and generally terrified of anything big and black (made for some interesting mornings when he saw dad in his black dressing gown when we first got him!). However, at our wits' end with the plastic one, we took the plunge. It was a little on the small side, but to give an example of the reaction...we've just ordered the next size up! All our worries were for naught, as he absolutely loves the thing. The small is more suited to a small terrier or chihuahua than a stocky shih tzu, so I would recommend anyone looking for one for the same breed to make sure to consider the size of their little gal or fella. If he/she is on the thin side, a small would fit well, however if he/she is on the bulkier end of the shih tzu spectrum, a medium would be better. The 'comfy' in the name is well deserved, as it's nice and soft, but has stiffeners in it to keep it rigid enough to restrict movement, and it has foam between the fabric layers to add stability without reducing comfort. There are lots of strips of velcro for adjustment, and it even has a spare strip to cover exposed velcro - a very considerate touch. The rim, while looking white in the picture, is actually a reflective strip of the kind you'd find on high-vis vests, and there are elastic loops around the base to slip a collar through. This makes it very convenient as it means that, if they have trouble drinking, you can simply unfasten and refasten it without removing it altogether. Our little guy's been prancing around like the king of the hill in his new collar, all full of pride as he looks so smart in it, and the colour actually seems to be calming him rather than bothering. All in all, I'd highly recommend this over a plastic cone, and am keeping the smaller one for nighttime use (since it's just large enough so it'll work well as a cushion) but buying a new larger one for daytime. Looking forward to it arriving!

Great product. My older dog recently had a inguinal hernia surgery. He usually hates the plastic cone and always looks stressed the few times he had to wear it. Comfy Cone has made all the difference in his recovery. He barely notices it and is able to sleep in his usual positions with no trouble at all. I have the beige one. The inside is black which some people have complained about but actually this has helped our old boy sleep most of the day. Sizing: I got the medium size for my cavapom, he's the size of a larger cavalier dog so I'd say go for the larger size if in doubt. I would say if you have a dog with a long body, this cone may not cut it as it may not be long enough, but it's ideal for smaller and medium sized waggies.
