Blade has a keen single edge and does not lock as it stops at full extension. Marlin spike does lock and unlock very easily. Both are very easy to open. Spike is pointed enough to work well on splices and knots. Very sturdy and well made. Everything appears to be stainless and rustproof. Handy to have on a boat or in a shop.

Sturdy build and heavy. The blade has an unusually wide spine to give it lots of strength. The blade was quite dull out of the box but it was easy to sharpen with a basic kitchen knife sharpener. The pick is nice and long plus thick. My only beef is that the lock on the pick is weak and I was able to close the pick without pressing on the lock.
