Is this a good unit for that? I'm very new to this. Thank you.** A: It will depend on the variety of lettuce. The plants are close together - like 3 to 4 inches. You can get up to about 24 inches high. With 9 seed pods, you could leave some empty to get more room between your plants. They do sell several lettuce seed pods so you can grow lettuce - I have not tried this. I am growing herbs and they did well until the machine failed to tell me it needed water and they had a drought crisis which they never really recovered from. Mature plants go through a LOT of water, and I use distilled, so be sure to keep a lot handy and check several times a week no matter what the machine says.
