Q: Can you connect a moen ell to a standard pipe out of the wall?

The pipe out of the wall has to have standard 1/2 inch ips male threads, It should protrude from the wall about 1/2 inch since the female depth thread of the A725 is not that deep.

Q: I'm attaching this to a faucet diverter, what is the connection of the hose end and is it male or female ??

the hose end is the visible black piece in the photo. It has male threads. The hose (presumably to a hand shower or other accessory) will have a washer inside of it that fits nicely onto this output. HAND TIGHTEN ONLY, do not over tighten as it it is plastic and can break.
