TARARIUM Aquarium Filter Powerful 260GPH for 35-75 Gallon Fish Tank
I bought the TARARIUM Aquarium Filter Powerful 260GPH for 35-75 Gallon Fish Tank filter for my red eared slider turtle's tank (55 gallon tank with about 25 gallons of water). I rescued the turtle and honestly had no idea how dirty these guys are. I have had to replace multiple filters, so I bought this as a replacement and as a second filter to the one I already had. The filter uses no cartridges (saves $$), it has foam that you take out and clean each time it needs cleaning. The foam gets dirty pretty quickly but there is no additional cost for extra filters unless the foam detierorates, although that has not been an issue yet! It functions well and cleans the water and the filth well. It has a hose that uses air (I attach the hose to my a fake plants branch) and it creates a strong stream or current that my turtle loves to stand in, the pressure massages him! I have had the filter for a few months now and I waited to write the review so I could provide a real review and I am extremely happy with this filter. I would buy again and recommend. It is durable, quiet and my turtle loves it! I reached out to the company when I received it because I thought I was missing something and they responded right away. Customer service is good too! I don't know how it would be for fish, the water is pushed pretty hard by the air, but I am happy with it for my turtle!!!

MEGA REVIEW 2.0: 2 Tanks & Filters JQP-1000F & JQP-1500F! Flexible money saving!
~1yr on both JQP-1000F & JQP-1500F LOVE these filters, I had many Aqueons, good stuff, but noisy! JQP-1000F ~29 - ~55 gallons ( heavy current for < 29; 10 dangerous! ) JQP-1500F ~55 - ~100 gallons ( filter issues > 100; 55 ~2 week cleaning ) Negatives: Its blue vs black with silver sticker ( I may remove), bit short of a cord, can be loud with air, and if you let it get too clogged, it will be an issue, unlike external that just overflow past the clogged filter. You have to be careful with internal filters, I have experimented with methods. It has a bit of a learning curve coming from external filter. Way more pros than cons, so get those out of the way first. Pros: Silent, crystal clear water, super strong current, customizable media, optional air, nothing hanging outside tank, keeps things cleaner, and less food is sucked into this filter than any I have had, it stays atop the water for hours! Haven't cleaned tanks in ~1yr, current puts it all in filters! Probably more... Internal filters require cleaning and maintenance, weekly cleanings usually, default filters maybe 2 weeks, depending. My 75 will be at min weekly especially as fish grow 24 African Cichlids and 5 Bristle Nose Algae, large algae eater passed 14+yrs old. 29 varies weekly to week and a half, with 2 African frogs, 3 Dwarf Gouramis, 6 Red/Lamp Eye Tetra, 8 neons, 3 Otocinclus catfish, and a clown algae eater, plus at times ridiculous snail infestation! Cichlids ate most all in 75, but I have pulled hundreds from my 29, never filter issues. Loud at first, both are QUIET now, I am not using air its totally capped off. Air usage will increase noise! Bubbles are not necessary, but breaking the water surface is to release gasses, so angled upward flow to interrupt water seems best; I direct into the front glass and use the air clip to direct the flow into the corner pushing the water upward. Picture of JQP-1000F to show angled air clip. The motor does get quieter the deeper in the water/tank, but it will breach the surface less, so I keep it near the top. I removed the air tube and capped it off. You can run this sucker sideways, at the top or bottom, really position it in any direction you see fit. Vibrations can cause noise not always from the motor but resonate from areas of tank glass lids etc. Occasionally motors will make noise, unplugging for ~1 minute and plugging back in usually resolves that issue, consistently! Potential issue with A/C frequency variation over time or something. For filtration, you want mechanical, biological, and chemical, in that order, with chemical (carbon) being optional. I experimented with a few setups. The sponges alone will do both mechanical and bio, but since you can customize, I did! For both JQP-1000F & JQP-1500F filters, starting at the bottom, I removed the rectangle sponge and bottom black cover leaving just the circular sponge, with a standard blue/white filter pad on top, and a 50 micron polishing pad on top of that. The middle one has the rectangle sponge with a blue/white filter pad and a polishing pad behind, and inside has the ceramic rings (I re-white with bleach ~3 months), a standard blue/white filter pad on top, and a polishing pad atop that. Finally, the third, the top cartridge, I have the square sponge, with blue/white filter pad behind, and 2 polishing pads behind that, and inside I have bio balls, with a carbon infused sponge on top of the balls. This maybe overkill but my water is crystal clear and fish super healthy! Keeping it clean and not over filtering matters! The sponges it ships with are more than adequate, but since you can customize this, I experimented. I really like the options for flexible media. The polishing pads can become an issue if clogged, and the blue ones collect considerable debris as well. Cost wise, I spend about the same per both tanks as I did with Aqueon, links below to products used, its under $100 a year for both, I think ~$75, give or take, plus time to cut filters, but that is all my choice. If you are sticking with the sponges it ships with, experiment with removing the square ones, maybe only from bottom as I do, and/or from all. Also, optionally, removing the bottom black cover, but likely should have some filter between it and motor for particles, fish won't get sucked in, there are plastic grates. If you restrict flow to much it will hurt or kill the fish!!! I had some issue with movement, a clip on both really helped. The JQP-1000F suction cups have a hole in them, which I think is a design flaw, I filled them in, the JQP-1500F are sealed. But the clip really helps, and they do not come with that, I had them from a auto camera system I purchased. One of 3 essentials I feel are necessary that the filters do not come with, cleaning brush, cap for the air, and the clip for the power cord. The JQP-1000F was way more problematic than JQP-1500F, which stayed in placed pretty well, but I had a lot of issues with the smaller JQP-1000F, till clip, and on both never issues! I also did rock changes in 2 tanks, and the water was clear within 2 days, these filters are really impressive! I had an sugar/piss micro ant colony beneath my Aqueon on my 29 gallon. These filters keep my tanks so much cleaner, aside from my messy auto feeders. I am extremely pleased. In my 29 gallon, you can barely see the filter, its pretty much hidden! This replaced a Aqueon 75 on a 75 gallon tank and Aqueon 30 on a 29 gallon, after having had 2 of each and some 11 x 12 boxes of filters over the years... I live in an area with lots of calcium, and it would build up on the external filter, and all over the lid, light, etc, yuk!!! Plus the external filters would make noise from water sounds to the motor when it gets dirty after time, and you can't clean them, I have tried, re-lubed, etc, they never go quiet or resume speed. Granted this may degrade over time, we shall see. Update: 1 Month+ Algae bloom is gone, water changes, etc replaced faded decorations, restocked fish, added new pics. Previous remarks below: My pleco approves, and helped cleaned off the surface of the filter some, so that may help with clogging. Though I may swap out that media. I have a bit of a algae bloom, but the Aqueon 75 wasn't doing much even with new filters. I have released some sediment and it cleared it out pretty well, though the surface seems to have stuff, it does seem to clear but more floats there than I am used to, but that's good at feeding time. The suction is much less on the filter than I am used to, but it is sucking and filtering, and thus far doing its job! Any major changes I will update! Great products JQP-1000F and JQP-1500F, may get a 2nd of each!

Quiet, Effective, and Easy to Maintain — but Spare Parts Needed
I have multiple planted freshwater aquariums, so I’m always on the lookout for filters that keep the water clean without disrupting the peaceful environment. This submersible sponge filter has been a great addition — it runs quietly, which I really appreciate, especially with several tanks running in the same room. The clear plastic sides are a surprisingly useful design choice — I can easily see when the sponge needs cleaning without having to unplug or take the unit apart. Maintenance is quick and mess-free. I also like the added air feature for extra oxygenation, though I’ve noticed that if any moisture gets into the air intake tube, the system stops functioning properly and starts making obnoxious gurgling noises all night long — not exactly soothing! My only real complaint is the flow director. Over time it becomes brittle and snaps, and once that happens, I can no longer control the direction of the current. For a product at this price point, it would be great if they included spare parts, especially such a critical and fragile one. Despite that issue, I still recommend this filter — overall, it’s quiet, effective, easy to maintain, and priced fairly. With a few part improvements, it would be perfect.

Powerful!
The water jet out of this is STRONG! Got it for a 55 tall tank, it definitely circulates the water with a fast current. I would not recommend if you have small fish that like calmer water, like tetras. The double sponges are great at catching debris, and they are easy to clean. Overall this is a great product at a great price, just be warned that you shouldn't use with small fish that don't like fast currents.

Was so easy to use, just plug and play, extremely quite, easy to pull apart and reaseble to clean, highly effective and the fish love to play in the out flow which in return puts ox back into the water without having mass sounds of running water into the tank, no worries of water discharge on the floor, extremely easy to cleans. The whole family is impressed, and loving the peace and quiet. Thank you from the bottoms of our hearts for making such an awesome product and making it available for other to indulge in. Sincerely, Sheila
