"FinFun" mermaid tail bought for 9 year old
We bought this tail for my 9 year old daughter. She is a size 14, we bought size XS Womens and it fits well; though it is a wee bit long, it's easy to scrunch or fold the extra length around the midriff (plus it gives her room to grow). She has used it 4 times since I gave it to her two weeks ago, for up to an hour at a time. The tail is easy to use and wear in the water, though I will admit she is a very good swimmer (two years of YMCA swim lessons). The tail material feels and acts like very good bathing suit, it is a beautiful pattern, and she wears it over a bikini. The tail can be a bit tricky to get on, we put the totally dry tail on a totally dry girl just before slipping in the water. I also suggest practicing getting the tail on and off at home several times before trying it at the pool. The tail tips are firm and feel as though they were reinforced with silicone or rubber, this is a great feature because inserting and removing the monofin is a delicate task. I stay with her in the water while she has on her tail. It's a great reinforcer for practicing dolphin kicks, and she also loves doing "tail splashes". It looks amazong in the water, and she keeps generating crowds of fans, lol. She can take a break from swimming by holding the pool edge or by "standing" on the pool floor, though I hope that, over time, the tail won't break down under the heels. I wish that "heel" area was rubberized as well, but so far it is doing ok. My only warnings to parents would be to stay with your mermaid at all times, just in case, and to watch for the tail as a tail splash can hurt someone accidentally (the monofilament is like a single hard swim flipper); also to take care in removing/inserting the monofin. Our community pool does not allow the tail, but luckily we have several close friends with private pools. Most unguarded pools (like in apartment complexes, condo communities, retirement communities etc) allow, or at least, don't ban, the mermaid tail. Oh yes! The packet of cards, letters of certification, stickers, posters and notes that come with the "FinFun" tail are great! They made my daughter feel very special and she absolutely loves the poster. I would, and already have, recommend the "FinFun" mermaid tail. The tail colors are beautiful, the tail and monofin feel and look professionally made, and overall it looks, feels and acts like a quality product.

Beautiful, stretchy tail fits well, functional!
Calling all mermaids! This mermaid tail was a hit! My daughter has been begging for a mermaid tail for the longest time. I found it challenging to find something that would be comfortable, functional, and fit her. She’s 5 feet tall and at the time was about 160 pounds. This was perfect! The tail can be put on and pulled up to your knees so you can carefully walk to the side of the pool edge. Sitting on the top step, you can slip your feet into the fins (tight!) and then pull the legging tail over the fins. She has since lost some weight (down to 140) and the stretch in the leggings still fits great. Even her “little brother” got in on the action. He’s 5 foot 11 and weighs approximately 140 pounds. Somehow he managed to get his men’s size 10 feet into those fins! Lots of interest and compliments on our spring break vacation. “Oh look at the beautiful mermaid!“. Well-made, beautiful colors, fin is functional, I recommend.

Great Fun!
Anyway, I was curious what it would be like to be a mermaid, and this was one of the less expensive options so I figured, why not give it a shot? I will say that swimming in this is a LOT harder than normal swimming (so I'd test it out in water that you're very comfortable navigating), as well as it puts pressure on my feet in a way that made it suitable for maybe a half hour of swimming, but really okay for hours. But...it worked nicely. I was able to almost instantly get it on and swim about a pool, and perhaps more importantly (for safety reasons), I was able to get it off again almost instantly when I wanted to. The tail is also pretty, seems well made, and is just generally fun! While I'm guessing there are versions that are probably better if you're *super* into mermaiding, this seems like a solid, entry level option.

Good quality, excited to swim with it!
**Edit: Removing a star to 4/5 instead of 5/5 After getting to swim in the water with it on, I still enjoy this tail, but make sure to size down. I'm a size 12 and once this tail got wet it was sliding off if I i dove or while swimming in the current in the ocean. The fin doesn't hold your feet well besides on the ankle, which makes it difficult to maneuver how you want. Overall I still enjoy having this tail, it makes for a good choice for pool/casual use, but since I'm wanting to advance more with my swimming and often go to the ocean, the fin just doesn't work well for me. I started my mermaid journey with a Mertailor tail with a Mermaid Linden fin. I was wanting another tail but just couldn't afford another Mertailor tail, so I took a chance. I'm so glad I took that chance! The tail fits nicely, the material and print is comparable to Mertailor. A mermaid linden fin can fit in it, but it does stretch a little more than the intended fin so it probably wouldn't work long term. The provided fin is hard to get on your feet but easy enough to get off fast for a tail bail. The stitching is well done to ensure it lasts a long time with proper care. Pictures of my finfun tail(black tail) compared with my Mertailor tail(blue tail). Shows them beside to compare the prints/tail shape, overlapping with the feet positions lined up to show size difference, and close up of the stitching. *I will update my review once I get a chance to swim in the tail with the provided fin in it!

Want a beginner tail, this is it!
I absolutely love this tail color and style. I bought the Black and Yellow tails, but the Yellow one is my favorite. This will be my first tail, and a medium fits me perfect! For reference I am 5' 6in 145-157lbs when I got it. In the picture I got a large Yellow, but returned it for a medium Blackwhich worked way better. The spandex like material makes it easy to slip out if you're struggling to swim, and you can easily remove the monofin and throw the tail cloth in the washer following the instructions for cleaning. Would recommend practicing in a pool. So far it's been very durable, and the color is so vibrant! Overall the functionality is well made for new merfolks of all ages.

Sturdy, fits well, comes off easily, works great
My 8 yr old dghtr wanted this in the Worst way! I was happily surprised how well made it is. The plastic part of fin is sturdy yet light enough that she is able to swim thru the water quickly and easily with it in. She really does look like a mermaid and she can swim super fast across the pool and even do forward and backward flips underwater! The sizing chart is not quite right--my dghtr would've probably fit into the Youth XL but there were none so we got the Adult XS and the waist is too big but the length almost right on. So do your measuring carefully and then maybe go up a size--my thinking is that if it's big, she can use it again next year and we'll really get our money's worth!

Great fun in the pool!
We bought our first FunFin in March 2022 in child's large/extra large for my 11 year old ($50). It fit her perfectly and fit matters because you want the plastic monofin, which was included, to stay on snugly, but be able to be "popped off" when needed. She loved it for imaginative play and games with her siblings in the pool. Her sister, who is 13, wanted to join in the fun, but we had to move up to adult sizes for her, which meant a higher price. So we paid $90 for hers, which is actually just one size up, based on the measurements included in the listing. Oh well! The listing was accurate with the measurements and I recommend using them to help you decide on which size to purchase. I read a few reviews about pilling and tearing at the tail, but we haven't experienced any tears, and if there are pills (tiny balls on the material as it starts to break down a bit), we don't notice or care. I wouldn't recommend purchasing the mermaid tail without the monofin if you hope to swim with it. Otherwise, all you've really done is restrict movement in the water, and end up with a floppy, material tail when you are out of the water. I expect to only get one swim season out of them, as the girls are likely to have outgrown the sizes by next year, but Texas summers last 4 - 5 months easy, so that's a doable investment!
