Not your typical headphones...
If you want Beats headphones, then these are not for you. They are not particularly comfortable, and they fall off easily so can't use them for workouts. Also the cord is bulky so it makes using it with an iphone difficult. When it comes to sound, looking at the frequency chart, this is not a "flat" studio headphone. So why would you want these?? First let me say the sound is not particularly colored sounding... In terms of frequency balance they sound in the same ballpark as ATH-M50's, so if you like those or the Sony MDR, then this will give you the same general type of sound range and 'flatness.' They do not sound treble-heavy the way others might sound bass-heavy. But what those peaks in the treble range do give is an incredibly musical clarity to certain recorded instruments: Pianos generally sound amazing and clear; you can hear the note and the release, and really hear the performance (of course this relies on the recording having that level of information - but this sound is lost in an M50 or MDR). Pianos sound like they're in HD. Certain cymbals, hihats, some string instruments...sound equally amazing. None of this matters if you just want some background music while you do other things; but if you actively listen to music and this music tends to be of the acoustic flavor, then these headphones help bring out the clarity of certain instruments the way a high end audiophile speaker system would. Bass and acoustic bass instruments are equally clear and resonant sounding; from a listening perspective these headphones have as much bass response as the M50s, only with extra clarity for acoustic instruments. How to try out these headphones if you are not an audiophile: set up a track of music with acoustic instruments and plug in your old headphones... listen for one particular instrument (like a piano or a particular drum) and make a mental note. Then switch headphones and listen to the same track while mentally focusing on that same instrument. Also, if you are looking for a gift for a music-person and wondering if they will enjoy these... the answer is YES. They will love them, even if they have not heard of them before.

Do it
After buying low grade headphones for years (skullcandy ear buds), I decided to branch out and get something worthwhile. After reading reviews on various headphones (aka cans) I decided on the grados and I couldnt be happier. One word I kept seeing in reviews of various headphones was "soundstage" which I didnt really understand until I put these on. You will hear EVERYTHING with these; these allow you to hear each and every instrument, note placement and vocal inflection just as the music composers intended, which is the sound stage. I never knew just how much I was missing until I plugged these in and gave them a go. Other reviews of these will highlight the lack of bass, which is correct to a point. Grado products are known to produce a specific sound that isnt necessarily geared toward bass heavy music. In my opinion, these really shine with lounge/dance/vocal type tracks versus drum and bass/hip hop. As an avid 90s hip hop lover, it was these headphones that made me realize a lot of hip hop has a filter that "muffles" the sound in comparison to lounge music where everything is sharp and vibrant. This isn't to say that they dont work with bass heavy music because they can if you tune your listening device for that. As an example, I have a built in Hi-fi DAC on my phone (LG V60) that allows me to tune the different bands. Admittedly, I had to tune the 32 and 64 bands all the way up...but once I did the headphones produced what I can only describe as a warm bass. Not overpowering, but a very satisfying, warm bass. After a lot of listens, I think the following tracks are great representations of songs containing complex elements that really let the headphones present a full sound stage: (Hip hop) DJ Quik- Pitch In On a Party (Lounge) Miguel Migs feat Andy Allo-This Feelin (Voice) Singers Unlimited-I Wish You Love I cant get enough of these headphones and I have been listening to just about everything I can think of to really hear it in the manner it was intended.

Good value, a little flimsy
The sound is excellent. It is rich and clear, and the headphones are easy to drive. They're not that comfortable, but I got used to that. What I didn't like is that one of the earphones came loose. This is the second time that's happened to me with a pair of Grado headphones. They're just not that well built. Be careful with them though and the sound is worth the money.

Same great Gardo sound
Sound is big and detailed. I owned a 125 and this has a bigger sound stage and more bass.

Clear Detailed Sound
Enjoying the great accuracy. My uncle was a drummer, I recall the use of cowbells, rimshots, the sound of a snare and all these detail lifts out of the tracks and brings back all these memories of hearing him play. These headphones are apparently still running in but already give so much clarity and allow such easy identification of instruments. It's not bass shy at all but gives the drums a more accurate, real sound than the sometimes boosted base other headphones do. The slide of fingers on a guitar, the piano notes that hang in the air. I own, have owned, a few well reviewed wireless headphones, this wired headphone validates the opinion that with lossless sources, wired is still the way to go. Loving this Grado and it's sound signature, accurate, punchy, an exciting listen.

BROKE After 1 Month of Desk Use
To be clear - the sound out of these amazed me in a way I’ve never been amazed before. The sound is present like you’re in front of some amazing speakers. Today, after about 5 weeks of use, I turned my head to look at something and the right ear cut out. I started messing around and quickly realized it was the cable. It seems like whatever glue holds the cable inside the driver came loose and is causing it to have an unstable connection. I am able to glide the cable in and out of the housing. They are *technically* usable if you get the cable just right and don’t move much, but that is unsatisfactory for a $300 product. I contacted Grado support but haven’t heard back yet.

On a whim I decided to try out these Grado SR325x headphones. I knew that I could return them within 30 days. I'd seen some people say very good things about them and other saying rather bad things about them. My suggestion to you, if you are wondering about these headphones, is try them out. They are very easy to drive and will work very well with nearly all DAC/amps. You can just plug them into the headphone output on a mobile phone, but they will sound a lot better with a dedicated DAC/amp. However you won't need a very expensive one. So I tried them out and I'm very glad I did. These are really fabulous headphones. They capture the energy of the music so well, they bring out all the fun and enjoyment in the music better than any headphone or speaker setup I've heard. Hi Fi people talk about "pace, rhythm and timing", PRAT, well, these are really superb in this area. The Grado SR325x headphones also bring out great beauty in the music. Instruments and voices sound really beautiful to listen to. I don't think these headphones are 100% accurate, but they are so very enjoyable to listen to. They do score very well with all that normal Hi Fi stuff, the stereo image is very good indeed, the bass is very full and defined, although it does not go really deep. I think that the only negatives with them really are that the treble is at time too lively. They are a bit golden sounding in the treble, but I don't mind either of these things very much because the strengths are so great. If you haven't tried these, please do! You won't regret it.

You would expect that a handmade headphone would be tested before being shipped. Only one side of it had sound, the other side did not work. Cables are also very loosely attached and can be moved all the way inside the earcups. Does not feel well made at all.
