High quality: works brilliantly, good looking, long lasting.
Simple to use. Not ugly. Does the job. Tucks away in a corner, so unobtrusive. No mess. Huge reservoir to collect water so you can leave for days without emptying, or can cope with lots of laundry or a very damp environment. Does our entire house - 4 bedrooms, three stories. Built to last. And it’s a UK company. 🇬🇧😀

Incredible machine
As you all know, UK is incredibly humid, especially in the old houses. We live in a old house which doesn't even allow the laundry to dry before 2 to 3 days. Because of this humidity our wardrobe, mirror and shelves got moldy incredibly quickly, we were always dealing with condensation and black mold, bathroom doesn't have a window so it was always wet but not anymore. This machine is such a miracle worker, you wouldn't even believe. First of all, it reduced our allergies significantly. Secondly, no more mold, condensation goes away within minutes, the bathroom dries quickly after starting the machine (to be fair, we never turn it off) and laundry dries within a day. It's such an amazing machine which purifies the air and sucks up the humidity like a sponge. If you're every doubting in any way to purchase this machine, don't and don't even bother with other small and cheap dehumidifiers because they just don't work.

Great device and not an eyesore
Works great, keeps moisture down. We don't have a damp house but did have with some black mould in the bathroom from poor ventilation (no fan) and a small leak. This deals with this with no problem. The fan noise is quiet but too loud for me to have in tv room or bedroom. It's on the landing outside the bedroom and can't hear it with the door shut. It looks good and fits in with the home compared to other models we've had. Overall very pleased so far. The 5 year warranty is good piece of mind too

A quality unit ... but it can rattle! Buggy controller failing to spot changes
Update to last review - now 16 months ownership The unit is going well still - looking a bit grubby and it would be good to have user access to clean some of the internal vents. The main issue is still the poor/buggy control code, which I hope they have improved for current models, but too often as previously found it fails to spot a change in humidity when it comes on briefly to check and also at times even when on, the whole bathroom etc can go from dry to 95%, even though the unit is on (fan running) it just fails to resample the significant change - when out of warranty I may replace this controller! This has been in use for about a year and has just worked, and is easy to setup and just leave, periodically emptying it (good size tank) and cleaning the air filter. As in the headline, this is far from silent at times, which Meaco could probably do more to solve, but you will find that it can be a bit noisy at times, as other dehumidiiers are. One of the first fixes I found was to put bubble wrap around the cable holder - which fits loosley and becomes something to vibrate. Other times I just move it a bit or wedge it against a wall with some rubber of similar, changing its natural frequency. Two features I would like them to add: 1) having a memory of the last state if you unplug the unit. Frustratingly it both forgets the last humidity setting, and the last running state, so is unsuitable for use with an external timer. 2) properly periodically check the humidity when deciding when to come on. Far too many times the unit fires up for a few seconds to decide whether the humidity is too high but for some reason, even a significant change is often missed, in which case I just press the off/on button and now it soon recognises the change.

One of my best investments
I got this a while ago but recently got to pull it to proper use. I had a roof leak, and this came in handy to draw water out of the roof and the carpet. I have also put it to use in my living room downstairs which used to smell of damp for some reason. I am shocked at the amount of water it has drawn out of there- and the damp smell is absolutely gone. This is a pricey unit but very well worth the money (in the long run).. great performance but again this is my first dehumidifier - I love that it also purifies the air. If you are undecided, please go for it. It has a good weight to it (that should be expected for a solid unit) and may be difficult for some to move up and down the stairs. It is also not completely silent, but it’s not noisy either. One can get used to the sound. Easy to use also. I cannot speak to durability yet as I have had it for about 9 months only. My unit came without the HEPA filter, and I only realised that after 4 months of purchase. I contacted the seller and they sent one out- good customer service. I think they should make it available for sale on Amazon . Or is there a link to purchase the air filter here now?

Wish I'd bought one years ago.
This dehumidifier is brilliant. It is simple to use, quite running and collects an unbelievable amount of water from the air. I went for the 25L model as recommended for a five bedroom house. It lives on the landing so I don't have to take it from room to room. We just have to leave the doors open when the rooms are unoccupied. I have humidity sensors in every room including the bathroom. So monitoring the humidity is easy to control. We no longer get condensation on the inside of the windows as we did in the morning before. The house also feels warmer and heats much quicker. The energy costs of running a dehumidifier has always put me off purchasing, but our energy bills have dropped since we started using ours. We leave it on constantly at a 50% humidity setting. It turns itself on and off when the humidity is increased. The heating is set to 20°c as before yet it feels more comfortable and seems warmer than it did before. Wish I'd bought one years ago.

Expensive underperformer made with cheap parts
The Arete One 25L has a five year warranty. Despite the bigger numbers in the specs, and gross unit size, it does less work than my old ABC 10L on the same settings, and pulls less water out of the air. I've now got to scrape mould from my bathroom ceiling again. It is, technically, functional and I do occasionally have to empty it, it just doesn't work as well as the old models. I presume that's why Meaco feel they can offer a five year warranty instead of a two year one. If you set it to 50% RH, it'll only come on when it detects 53%+ RH, then bring things down to 47% (or under 50% if running for more than 30 minutes) before switching off. If you know you have a tipping point around 50% and want to stay just at or under it, this is awful. In theory, a system like this is great for avoid the system switching on and off constantly. In practice, it means I have to run the unit harder than my old one and push down to 42% on occasion which is much harder and more expensive to operate at. The sensor also appears to be of poor quality. I have the unit immediately outside my bathroom, and after showering the local RH can be quite high for a while (and the extractor never gets it all, hence the dehumidifier), but the Arete will not register much of a change at all. The old unit used to be able to detect the higher RH quickly. Random little £3 sensors can also detect the change (even if you can argue they're not very accurate). This one doesn't budge. The control panel is still the same cheap rubbish as the ABC units, and doesn't even feature a timer to put the unit in night mode (dims display and limits fan speeds) - you have to press the button manually every time, or forever burn your chosen setting into the display. It's not like I'm asking for fancy Wi-Fi controls (though given the cost of this unit, you'd think they could slip in a sub-five quid receiver). Actual tactile buttons instead of a contact pair in between sheets of plastic film would be nice too, though I understand that such would risk being a moisture trap. It'd just be nice to have a more robust control panel. I previously had an Meaco ABC 10L. It died after 12 months (two year warranty). The replacement died after 12 months, shortly after the warranty period expired. Both had issues with compressor and coolant, manifesting in sounds and massive loss in efficacy. The second one had issues with the display on the control panel burning through. I was not best pleased with Meaco but decided to try a different model as I couldn't find a competitor I felt comfortable with. After 1.5 months with the Arete, I'm not likely to patronise the company ever again.
