Looking for the best magnifier to use with maps... and maybe for the FAA Part 107 exam? Then look no further, this is the one to get. It comes with a super-nice case that is semi-rigid and has a buttery smooth zipper. It includes a microfiber cloth and the batteries (two CR2016) installed. You simply remove the plastic insulator tab from the battery compartment and click the internal switch to ON and it's ready to go. The lens is large and measures 2-3/4 inches in diameter. The construction of the magnifier is anodized aluminum and is fairly light for the size-- that makes it easy to use but it's still heavy enough to hold your book open as a paper weight, if needed. To activate the light you then push down on the finely milled silver ring and you get a perfect illumination of the surface beneath the magnifier. No shadows and no hot spots. To turn the light off you simply push down again on the silver ring. The clarity of the optic is excellent and more than adequate for reading purposes. Most everything is in clear focus and it's big and easy to see! I tried the basic "dome" style acrylic magnifiers but without perfectly placed lighting they are dark and not usable. This one is probably the best of the illuminated ones available. Your search is over-- get this one. You will be glad you did.

I compete in a navigation competition were reading small details on the map is critical. I am thrilled with how clear this shows the map and the lighting is great, no shadows coming in from the sides. I am very impressed and excited to use this this year in competition.

Works wonderfully. Makes it easier to see smaller text and the light helps in lower light. What would have made it even better is if the bottom was more square making it easier to use when close to the middle of the book

My old man eyes are catching up to me and I had to breakdown and get something to help. Had my eyes checked and they told me I really didn't need glasses so I figured something to increase font size would help....and this does the trick! I LOVE the built in light that is integrated into it, which makes lowlight not a problem. It's a little expensive but it looks good as well as being functional. I've had it a number of months now and still haven't had to change the battery in it.

Pretty good at being reduced distortion at edges. Surprisingly, the light makes it exceptionally more useful for seeing small things.

This is just what I have be looking for. I have 50 year old lense that I love. I wanted a second one. You can't find it now. This one is a great upgrade.

I've been looking for a good magnifying glass for general use. This is a quality item.....feels solid, very large lens, and has integrated LEDs that uniformly light up the item it's placed on top of. I like that the magification is 5X which is plenty to read small text on almost anything. Only bad thing is that it uses two coin cells (2016 type) which are fairly common but not as common as 2032 which you can find almost anywhere. I like that you press down on the whole thing and it turns on/off, so you don't have to search for a small power button. This makes it so convenient to use. Lastly you get a nice pouch to keep it from getting dusty.
