Master the skills to create your very own manga! Expert manga artist Mark Crilley guides you to another level with this powered-up drawing book. Complete your Crilley collection with this third installation, which elevates the instruction to focus on drawing methods to help you create distinctive and detailed professional-level manga art. Through 40 in-depth step-by-step demonstrations not covered in other Mastering Manga books, Mark reveals his secrets for adding color, how to draw manga-style animals, ways to use photo reference, his preferred art supplies and how to fix character inconsistencies. The book is broken down into three sections: โข Characters and Styles. Learn how to draw characters in every manga style--elegant Shojo, angular Dark Fantasy, action-packed Shonen and cute cartoon. Break-out lessons focus on anatomy, hairstyles and all genres of clothing, from classic anime uniforms to fantasy costuming. โข Poses and Action. Make your characters bold, memorable and full of vitality. Get the most out of your poses by learning how to create natural, standing and dynamic running poses, plus sword fights, romantic Shojo interactions and stances for animals, manga monsters, chibi cuties and mech a robots. Advanced lessons include how to convey a sense of motion, tips on body language and how to effectively using foreshortening. โข Finishing Touches. Elevate your art with Mark's professional instruction on completing your comic. These final lessons include page layouts, logo design, how to place a character in a setting, correctly using dialogue and speech bubbles, advanced costume design (fantasy armor, wings, and more) and how to create attention-grabbing cover art. "Manga is all about fresh concepts and fascinating characters. You've got ideas. You've invented new characters. There's a whole world waiting to see what you've come up with!" --Mark Crilley Review: Love All Three Volumes, and Wish Author would release Another! - Love the product, the love the author. Seller was great, too. No complaints. Sorry it took me so long to review: I forgot. I'd buy from this seller again. The Mastering Manga series in general is great because it doesn't teach you to just copy the pictures: It details how to build the bodies/forms, as well as touching upon techniques. You're not just given a copy paste method, but the understanding of how the shapes connect and what they represent. In addition, the author/illustrator goes into details about paneling, composition, value, and other elements besides constructing figures. Great books all around, and the this first volume I actually READ through. The text is conversational and engaging, which is not always the case with instructive texts. Review: ... this book without hesitation mostly because I was so happy with Mark Crilley's first two book in this series - I bought this book without hesitation mostly because I was so happy with Mark Crilley's first two book in this series. (I hope he makes a 4th) Again, Mark takes it one next level, improving techniques for a more advanced style while still not rushing things through the book. More advanced poses, character interactions and character types are covered in the book as well as some techniques to help you speed up your drawing a little bit. There's also tips and coverage of scenery, shadowing and backgrounds, some clothing and costume tips and coloring covered. I recommend this book for those of you who are pretty good already, but are stuck on how to improve your art and bring it to the next level, although I did debate as to whether to give it 4 or 5 stars for a bit because I felt there could be a little bit more in this one.

Mark Crilley Nail's it Once Again!
Mark has hit the "mark" once again with the 3rd volume of "Mastering Manga 3". The 3 volumes can take a novice and piece by piece teach the art of Manga starting with character faces to Background drawing to polishing off your drawings. Just remember this is Manga and not Anime, however, using techniques provided in this series can be used for Keyframes whether you're drawing by hand or by computer (whether you use painter or vector). As always Mark is the most notable Manga artist in the U.S. with hundreds of "how to" video's on YouTUBE. I personally consider Mark at the top of my lists as mentors. Just a quick note... I've had reputable production companies (no free advertising here) De-spline each volume and I take the pages home and have all 3 volumes "holed" and placed in a 3 ring binder scanning and page marking are as easy as... 1, 2, 3.... Oh hell I might as well tell you but Fedex/Kinko's and the UPS stores ought to be able to de-spline your volumes or direct you to someone who will. The cost is cheap.. just a few bucks. Good luck to all you amateur Manga Artists.. as well as those who are experienced. I believe "Mastering Manga" can help anyone whether novice or experienced find ways to improve their drawing experience. Remember, anyone can draw you just need to take that first step.

A Great Book for Aspiring Illustrators and Artists
Another fantastic installment of my favorite "how to draw" manga series. Each book has provided me with more and more in-depth knowledge from an illustration master and this book is no different. Perfect for those who are ready to take their skills to the next level!

Absolutely loved it!
I was a little nervous about buying a how to draw manga guide from a non-Asian guy. But to be honest, his whole how-to-draw manga series is amazing. I'm on deployment just trying to learn a new skill so I don't have a lot of fancy art supplies. These books only require the basics. Pen (inking), pencil, paper, eraser, and sometimes ruler. I can actually draw characters now and do silly quick sketches that I'm not ashamed to have people see. I definitely would buy more of his books! They are SUPER simple to understand and even the most un-artistic person can follow along.

It's a good book
Looking forward to learning from it. Been learning from Crilley's YouTube videos, but books allow me to slow down and think over how to draw in the manga style. I advise using both the books and the videos together.

Power Up? Don't mind If I Do
So you look at your art after reading the first two books and thought well I'm really good almost professional, but I want to get better and "power up" so I... can... go beyond... even further... - DBZ then this is the book for you as Mark teaches you different manga styles, how tom make a logo and much more, this book is really only meant for those who want to become a comic creator who draws manga for a living (or as a side job) then this book is almost a necessity and lastly, go to this authors youtube channel for much more tips if you want.

Powered up
As with the first two mastering manga books Mark really shines. Still easy to follow while presenting a few challenges to keep things interesting. It goes more in depth on dynamics while showing you subtlety and how positioning and emphasis greatly affects the feeling you get from a picture, stylistic choices and much more. Truly a wonderful series, whether drawing for fun or for your own manga illustrations and comic series' you can definitely power up your manga art.
