Classic old fashioned USA made ratchet.
Classic old fashioned USA made course tooth standard ratchet. Will handle many jobs of loosening, installing, tightening nuts and bolts, spark plugs too. Pretty stout and sturdy basic ratchet. Have owned a few of these over the last few decades in both chrome finish and black oxide finish. Keep one in my tool set in addition to MAC flex head finer tooth long handle ratchet. My previous Proto ratchets miraculously disappeared or walked off on their own a various times. I keep a backup rebuild kit just in case, but have never needed it. Only inconsistency I’ve noticed over the years is that there is sometimes a handle length variation difference of + or - 1/2 inch from one ratchet to the other. Won’t hesitate to recommend owning and using one.

Buy this
I own all kinds of ratchets in pursuit of finding the best, so I should know what I'm talking about when recommending one to someone. I use primarily at work, and the first thing I noticed was how smooth and perfect the mechanism sounds and feels, literally Koken smooth. Then there's the affordable price. This design is nothing new, and there's a reason it's still being made. There are openings for ease of oiling which could potentially allow dirt to enter, but I wouldn't worry too much. Take care of it, and it will do the same for you. It's perfect American made quality.

Works flaulessly
I bought this as it's a 3/8" ratchet still made in the USA. I only have one comment, during the day with all the other work going on, you cant.hear it, but ....if it's quiet in the shop, it's does make.a lot of noise. I've stripped it and oiled it but it's still noisy. Apart from that it's been excellent 😁

USA made quality.
This is a well made tool. I had to oil it when I first got it but that’s ok. I wish the handle was a bit longer but it’s fine. It has an old school quality feel to it.

My favorite ratchets.
Shiny and new. I bought three and all are identical and excellent quality. Made in USA. The retention ball holds tight. Thin, wide head with handle on short side of mid-length. Low profile reversing lever. No sharp edges.

Great ratchet
These ratchets are not fine tooth but with alittle lube in the gear box there very smooth. This Proto ratchet is a a quality tool, very strong as well, and my favorite now. They have been making this style ratchet since around the depression and havent changed it much.Made back when alot of tools where over built and lasted forever.God Bless America, and its great tools!

Legacy Tools
We live in a time where the vast majority of things being manufactured are designed and produced in a way that ensures that the end user will need to replace their "things" when they eventually fail. But there are still some brands that design and produce products with the goal of providing the end user with a "thing" that does not fail, and has the ability to be maintained and repaired as opposed to replaced; and in my experience, Proto are one of them. Conclusion: If you want/need a reversible 3/8" ratchet that will live long enough to be of use to your family through generations, then this will more than suffice.
