I bought this item to use as a shaving bowl. It is perfect to use it for this purpose if you have large shaving brushes like the Simpson Chubby 3 / Kent 12. I was able to create lots of lather with very little soap / cream and the granite bowl holds the heat of the hot water for a long time. You should soak the bowl in hot water for 2 or 3 minutes so it is able to act as a heat sink when you begin to shave. Since others mentioned that the metal ring does rust, I removed it prior to using the bowl (BTW - it is not glued on to the bowl - the trick is to dunk the upper lip of the bowl into hot water - that will expand and loosen the metal ring. Using a small screwdriver and a set of pliers, I was able to twist part of the metal ring and then used the pliers to just "tear" it away from the bowl without causing any damage) I added some stick-on rubber feet to the bottom of the bowl to protect the countertop - am sure I will get years of good use from this granite bowl.

It’s porous but cleaning and maintenance isn’t that bad. I use it for cooking rice or preparing Korean Bibimbap with the stone pot heated. Avoid extreme conditions like submerging it in water for days and then suddenly placing it on the burner at high heat. Does discolor and darken from stove/flames. But that’s expected. Other than the price, no complaints

Good stone bowl - I especially like the use and care instructions that came with it. I can't wait to get the bowl well seasoned.

First off if you heat up this stone pot it will keep the heated liquid boiling after you take it off the stove. Thats nut. It stained for no reason. Got a orange stain but it sort of looked patina which Ill give a pass for.
