Hi does this crumble like kinetic sand?

No. Its basically a sandy texture playdough. It left our hands with all the particles. We didnot like the feeling. Using a 5 below sand box which is better than this.

When you first purchase this, how much water do I use to activate it?

For Slimysand, there should not be any water added to this product as it's not developed for water play
