For temperature control with 70 degrees set I find the temp runs between 72 - 68 degrees. Thus it turns on at 68 and runs until the room is 72 degrees. It takes between 10 - 15 minutes for each cycle. Thus on a daily basis it runs about 4 - 6 hours a day. It is rated at 1500 watts for high but I believe based on what I did in research that that high rating is closer to 1300 watts. Energy Analysis - Given that it runs 4 - 6 hours per day at 1300 watts my costs per month are approximately as follows. 6 - 9kw's per day x 30 days or 180 - 270 kw's per month. My energy cost is about .11 per kw + .02 for distribution or .13 per kw. So based on this my monthly cost runs between - $23.40 to $35.10 or so about a $1 a day. Recommendation - This product runs quiet and in my opinion very efficiently. It meets the needs that I purchased the Lasko for and have had no service problems at all with the unit. I feel good using this method to use the same amount of power but be more comfortable. Electric heaters in general are 100% efficient. In other words, 100% of the power that goes into it is converted to heat - except for what it takes to power the fan and the oscillation of the unit. However, fans like this use an extremely small amount of power for the fan and oscillation. If you use this to reduce the amount of heating from your central heating unit (furnace), then it's extremely "efficient" and can save you a lot of money. A natural gas burning furnace is usually only 80% to 90% efficient. A good portion of heat goes out the roof through the flue pipe (exhausting the products of combustion which can be dangerous). Natural gas is usually cheaper than electricity per unit of heat, however, so many people think gas heat is more efficient than electric heat, but it's the opposite. By now, you're probably sorry you asked... :o) **Q: Durability: will it stand up to limited but daily use for six months or longer without the heating element burning out?** A: I have used it almost every night for about 12 hours per day, every day, at the highest heat setting and with the oscillation motor running for over 5 years. It started to make a humming whine a couple days ago, but still functioned normally otherwise. I just took the back cover off for the first time (it's held on by 5 torx screws and two clear plastic stickers) and used a tiny hose/brush attachment on my handheld vacuum (the kind I usually use to clean electronics, like keyboards) and pair of long, bent-tip tweezers (used to apply individual fake eyelashes or thread overlock sewing machines) to clean out all the dust and fur from inside the heater. Especially reach inside the cylindrical fan at the center from the top and bottom cups to pick the clumps out and vacuum brush the curved fins. Be careful not to remove all the grease on the bottom plate, or if you do have to wipe some off to get the dust, you can replace it with your own, fresh machine grease. I put the cover back on and plugged it in. Now, it works like it was brand new, no strange noises, and it's putting out a lot more heat and pushing it further around the room like it used to when it was brand new. I have bought two other space heaters since I bought this one. The Vornado literally melted itself with a few months and the Crane had to be rewired after a couple months, is weak, has no tipover protection, and can only heat a small closet or bathroom. This Lasko is the best space heater I have ever owned or used I would highly recommend it to anyone. **Q: Approx how many sq feet is it best used to heat?** A: This heater works well in 100 sq ft above 53 degrees. Below 50 degrees low temperature an additional Lasko heater may be necessary depending on what your insulation and window type that you have. I still love mine. **Q: Will this shut off if knocked over?** A: I have the 6410 and on the front of the box, the Tip Over Protection box is NOT checked. But there is supposed to be overheat protection. So, I would think that may mean that if the outlet is blocked, it might then shut off.
