As you move data to the cloud, you need to consider a comprehensive approach to data governance, along with well-defined and agreed-upon policies to ensure your organization meets compliance requirements. Data governance incorporates the ways people, processes, and technology work together to ensure data is trustworthy and can be used effectively. This practical guide shows you how to effectively implement and scale data governance throughout your organization. Chief information, data, and security officers and their teams will learn strategy and tooling to support democratizing data and unlocking its value while enforcing security, privacy, and other governance standards. Through good data governance, you can inspire customer trust, enable your organization to identify business efficiencies, generate more competitive offerings, and improve customer experience. This book shows you how. You'll learn: Data governance strategies addressing people, processes, and tools Benefits and challenges of a cloud-based data governance approach How data governance is conducted from ingest to preparation and use How to handle the ongoing improvement of data quality Challenges and techniques in governing streaming data Data protection for authentication, security, backup, and monitoring How to build a data culture in your organization Review: Talks only about the analytics part of governance - This book is only about half the governance. The authors are all from google - so no wonders here. The approach will work perfectly for them. It will describe data governance mostly for analytics. I am missing governance for operative systems like SAP, salesforce, ... The business view on data across data sources to govern the data of a company. In their data life cycle data just appears and the is processed and sotred and deleted. But what of master data that is used for several years in operative systems (with one retention policy) and regularly exported, processed and stored (with another retention policy). And europeans will miss a big part - there is no mentioning of the governance that is necessary for DSGVO. Just a general part on data protection and one on legal restrictions. Review: ok - the approach and enablement of data governance has gone through a massive change in the last 20 years, surely there is a lot of catchup to do in this book. If you want a refresher then this book provides a nice reading.

Well laid out, this book starts from the beginning then builds
I found this a fantastic introduction to data governance. The first chapter arms the reader with a good working understanding, with subsequent chapters diving deeper into various topics. The authors bring a very deep understanding of the topic, mixed with a practicality that is refreshing. Strongly recommend picking it up.
