This trashcan is the best trashcan I've ever had. I'm going to echo the other reviewers here but I will not plagiarize. This really is a wonderful trash can and I can't believe I'm actually saying that. I guess I like it so much because I've only ever had trashcans that suck. Everything about this trashcan is fantastic. There's a pocket for extra trash bags on the backside of the can. My little boy likes folding up trash bags and stuffing them into this pocket. The foot pedal is well balanced with the trash can and when you step on it, the trash can doesn't lurch forward at you like other trash cans. The lid closes slowly so you can toss something extra in if you didn't remember the first time. The top rim lifts up and easily stands open so you can lift out a full trash bag and insert a new one. This is a terrific feature as most others have to be held open while you get the bag in only to have the lid slam down so hard that the bag falls into the can. NOT SO with this beauty. Now, it comes with simplehuman trash bags designed for this product that fit the trash can perfectly. They are lovely trash bags and durable as well. If you like higher quality trash bags, I recommend them, but they're not in my budget and so I buy the regular stretchy ones with the drawstring ties at the wholesale/bulk-item store nearest to me. The regular drawstring tie trash bags fit this can quite nicely. They are tight around the top rim of the can and I really like that because that means the they are NOT going to fall into the can no matter what I put in there. The store bags fit so well that we are able to stuff each bag so full that the bag will rip down lower but will never come loose at the top. This is not a problem for me. My beef with all other trash cans I've ever had was that the lid didn't keep the darn bag attached to the can, no matter what. Sometimes the top part of the bag will pop a bit where the drawstrings are, but this doesn't concern me, because the bag doesn't ever rip from the top. This trash can is easy to clean. Although this may not mean much, the stickers that came on the trash can were easy to remove too. I think the lid closing slowly is probably my favorite feature because I had grown so tired of the slamming lids of other trash cans. I have three children and a husband and so the old trash can made a heck of a lot of noise for a very long time. I'm so glad that I spent a little bit more and treated myself to this trash can. When people come to visit and compliment the trash can (can you believe that? that's how cool this thing is...) I can't help but tell them how much I like it. It's crazy that a trash can makes a difference in daily life in the kitchen, but it does. I can honestly say that I love this trash can.

Very happy with it. I loved my old One by them but was too small. Easy to clean and the bag hides away. Seems like great quality and looks nice.

Update 1/26/24: This can has held up amazingly well after years of daily use, but I did discover one thing I dislike about it. While it’s fine when closed, trash odor is unusually strong when I open the lid. I assume the wide opening is a factor as it may allow more odor to escape and maybe I fill the can more as I can utilize all the space in the bag and still easily pull the full bag out of the can. Whatever the reason, I’ve never noticed such a strong odor as I do using this can. It’s a great can, but the smell can be really unpleasant. Original review: I bought this trash can in grey for a family member and liked it so much I decided to buy one for myself. I’ve had a Simplehuman stainless steel trash can in the kitchen for years, and it was very good. But it was hard to keep shiny, the finish wasn’t looking great, and the lid clanked against the cabinet if it was positioned too close. It also started to get rust spots underneath the lid. So I’ve moved that can into the garage to use for recycling. I’m so happy with this new Simplehuman trash can. While it’s mostly plastic, it looks quite nice and still compliments my stainless steel appliances given the grey color, stainless steel band around the top of the front and steel foot pedal. This trash can has a wide opening at the top so it’s hard to miss getting the trash in the can, yet it has a slim profile so it can be pushed close to the cabinet. The lid doesn’t fly all the way back, so it doesn’t hit the cabinet. Plus, it’s a slow closing lid and doesn’t clank. There’s a space in back to store the liners- super convenient as I don’t have to go out to my garage cabinets to grab a new bag every time I empty the trash. Ten sample liners (K type) are included and fit perfectly. They’re ultra high quality liners so, of course, I now want to buy more. But my regular 13 gallon trash bags fit fine, and the design of the lid hides the top of the bags well and keeps them from falling in. This trash can is also easier to keep clean than my stainless steel can. I’m happy with everything about this trash can. 5 stars.

My last simplehuman trash can, which I'm replacing, was white and identical to the black one I just purchased. I had my last simplehuman trash can close to 20 years! If this one lasted half that time, I will still buy another simple human brand. The soft closure lid is my favorite feature ! The black color is a great upgrade for the kitchen.

We are very pleased with this garbage can. It fits in a very slim space, looks very good out in the open-we love the soft grey, opens and closes smoothly and quietly and the bag storage system is great. We both agree it is well worth the money.

I really love this garbage can. Trash stinks when you open it sometimes but other than that it is good quality and seems like it should hold up for a long time to come.

I bought a garbage can for $12 at Target that my Wife was absolutely sure would end friendships and be an utter embarrassment to mankind. OK fine! But I wasn't going to a million stores looking for a GARBAGE CAN that "Looks NICE"!!! Amazon to the rescue...... Minutes later...... "Babe, do you like this one? Are you sure!? No, watch the video first! Do you still like it?? I wanna know because it costs $80!! OK, fine, I ordered it!" Fast forward to review time, and I honestly gotta say..... It's the best Garbage Can I ever had!! LOL It has the same plastic-y feel, but the functionality makes up for it. The step handle on the bottom works great. It was easy to assemble. I probably won't buy the bags that go in the compartment in the back, but it's a nice feature. The Brushed Aluminum lip adds a nice look to our kitchen. A side note.... I've never had a garbage can this shape. It's kind of a narrow rectangular opening. However, getting the garbage bag out of the can, the whole garbage bag and contents, seem to be compacted. I can only attribute this to the opening shape. I really feel it somehow strengthens the bags as they come out. Instead of "Ballooning" like a giant, gross, teardrop, they come out matching the shape of the can. I know it's a weird observation, but I really think it helps... You be the Judge. All in all, I was pleasantly surprised!! PS..... Somebody actually moaned that the lid "went down to slow" ...... It's fine and that person has way too much time on their hands. Go watch Days of our Lives or something mystery moaner!

Sleek, sturdy, easy to use, overall the best bin I've ever had. I was in the market for a mid-range trash can and this was the perfect product for my mid-range price range. Here's some great qualities about it. I can't recommend it enough. - The storage in the back for garbage bags is a nice plus. - The lip of the lid is perfect for the tall narrow bags you can get anywhere. It fits snugly, so no knots or extra guesswork. - The additional lid that covers the bag secures the bag even further, so you're less likely to have spills and slippage on the bags. - NO SUCTION! Taking the bag out of the bin is so easy. - The slow close lid is very handy. I initially didn't think much of it, but makes the usability SO much better, especially if you are throwing away a lot of things, - Very sturdy for a plastic bin. It feels secure in place. There's no wobble at all, and the bottom even grips the floor a bit, so it doesn't slide around. - Small plus, but I love that it is available in black. Makes it fall away into the background as garbage cans should. I feel like stainless steel bins draw needless attention to themselves.

Great product. The quality is definitely there, and it looks it too - clean sleek styling and precision mechanics in the foot operation. Stainless steel bins are nice, but in my view a bin in a kitchen should not draw attention to itself hence I prefer a white one. A big added plus is that as it's plastic, it can't get dented with use, unlike a steel bin. A final plus is of course that plastic is much cheaper than stainless steel. Downsides: The bin liners are expensive no way how you cut it and I'm looking to use quality generic ones after the intro 10 pack runs out. Also, I find the genuine bin liners are not all that easy to fit - you need to stretch the last corner on. Another first world problem comes from it being plastic: the bin is light, so when it's mostly empty it'll have a tendency to walk across your tiles during repeated use, if it's not flush against a wall. The underside has two rubber pads at the rear and the front rests on the chrome U shaped bar beneath the pedal. So, not that much friction to offset constant foot taps, though this may depend on how slippery your tiles are. All in all, no regrets with this purchase.

This is the perfect gift because it's kind of expensive for what it is and most people wouldn't pay that much for themselves- but once someone uses it, they will appreciate the features. Pros: - Looks good - Bag top is hidden when installed for a cleaner look - Soft close lid Cons: - Tapered bottom can slide on floor (if you don't push straight down on the pedal) and push back, which I solved by having a wooden chock behind it, maybe you could use a rubber mat or buy one with a non-tapered bottom - If any part breaks (my foot pedal cracked and air-damper failed after 6 years) there are no parts available in Australia. I chatted with SimpleHuman US who offered to replace and ship the parts for free to a US address, and I had to pay forwarding costs to Australia. This ended up being pretty costly compared to the price of the parts, but cheaper than replacing the bin. Would buy again and consider it as a gift for others- particularly the metal finished variants from the range.
