What material are the backgrounds made from? Do they wrinkle?

The backgrounds seem made from a tough flexible plastic-like material. They do not wrinkle and fit well within the lightbox, covering bottom and back.

There is a white, somewhat see through square sheet in the box with a hole in it and velcro. What is that for?
