Does this work standalone without any other kits?

Yes it can do. There is an app to download which helps with game play. My wee one has a few of the sets and I think it’s more enjoyable when played alongside others but can be done with just the one kit. You will need the starter kit to get the Mario figure which is battery operated and connects to the game via Bluetooth. Hope this helps

Do mario and Luigi work together if connect Mario starter set and Luigi starter set or do you have to pick one to play

They can be played with together and Mario and Luigi work on each others starter kits. Once both connected via Bluetooth to the same device they work in sync with each other and even say hello to each other as well.

Yes they do. The mario is bluetooth and you can connect him to the app. The other two you make bug all tbe pieces are there for you to do that. Tbe instructions to make ate on the app which you download.
