Scanning Times and general comments
I am going through slides and negatives, 35mm and Medium format from my dad's past life starting from the 1960s. So it's A LOT. You will need A LOT of time on your hands and a very understanding family if you need to save all these memories that you have probably never ever seen before. I am using a high end spec Alienware notebook from 2015 to do this. I have gone through the trouble to time how long it takes to scan 35mm slides in different settings. 4 35mm Slides Scan for Positive 4800dpi 48bit Color Correction w/ ICE: 10min 29sec w/ Medium Dust Removal: 5min 44sec w/o Dust Removal: 5min 41sec Those Kodak slides from way back then will have dust in them if not growing on them. The Epson software dust removal is NOTHING. It's pretty much just like w/o dust removal. It's a worthless setting. Grain Reduction is noticeable but not by much. Color Restoration setting is like magic. Those old slides will have tinted to a magenta color by now, so you'll need that. Digital ICE Technology setting, now that makes a HUGE difference. Those dust specs disappear completely. I recommend this setting if you have the time. 60 slide magazine, 4 slides at a time, will take you 157.5minutes if you were a robot. 2hrs, 37.5min a magazine. I purchased an Amazon Recertified one of these and it works great! If you have an understanding family or a lot of spare time, I recommend this. If you don't then just get one of those $150 toys that you just push a slide in and press a button like a conveyor belt. Or pay someone or a company to scan them in for you.

Versatile
Wow, the scanning you will do! This can do some crazy detailed scans of photos. Great for digitizing old pics or just making digital copies of important paperwork. I love that it comes with frames for various film s and slides.

50% restocking fee for a defective scanner!?!?!
Scanner was received without the software disk. Our IT Department was able to download it from the internet but could not get the scanner to connect with any of our computers. When I sent the scanner back they kept 50% of the sale price ($275!) to restock a defective scanner! BEWARE!!!

What I needed but things you should no
I used this for digitizing my user manuals which it does perfectly Then I also use this for archiving my decades of drawings For this, I used the max DPI for 8.5x11inch paper. Which it caps out at 2400dpi even when it advertises much more. Apparently, that is only for the film when the image size is tiny that it might let you use those settings. Now the other issue is that thin shading and lines were bleached out, but when I set JUST the brightness to "-50" it made all of that come through clear as day and looking premium. (side note: it will reset this setting every time it closes (meaning I had to rescan a ton when I would forget to set that) but if you name that preset it will save all of your settings). So with those things, I discovered in mind, while it took a while (roughly 15min per page) I love how they came out. Two more issues to contend with: 1. The Window's photos app crashes trying to open these images which I want to do to crop out the white space and rotate the landscape images. 2. EVERY TIME you click scan a pop-up comes up warning you that the scan will take time at the high DPI setting. Which you cannot click an option to tell it to stop warning you. So after a process that took a week to scan all of my drawings (like non-stop a week), this drove me insane. because it renders the buttons on the scanner useless because you have to go to your computer and click ok on that pop-up. There is no fix for this or any way I could find to get help from Epson. The anger of having walked away and thought it was scanning but I had forgotten to click that little pop-up made that week hell. Overall: great scanner. big but the scan area is actually pretty small. it does have this little level arm thing so it can scan like a canvas not just flat sheets of paper. Thus, the hardware is great but the software looks and feels old and like Epson is doing nothing to modernize it.

LOVE and EXCEPTIONALISM
I LOVE my brand-new Epson Perfection V600 Scanner. Despite Epson discontinuing the V600, Stream Tech provided me an EXCEPTIONAL one-year limited warranty. The folks at Stream Tech are GREAT. I HIGHLY recommend Stream Tech for any technology needs you may have.

Broken & missing negative holders
Not "like new" as advertised. One of the two hinges of the cover lid was broken in two, the negative holders were missing; a major feature ! The scanner had many white marks, scuffs and something white spilled on it.

New scannet
This scanner is not better than my 10 year old 4490 Photo scanner. More interruptions and slow scans. The software it comes with is not an improvement from the older software. I tried to scan at the highest resolution and it froze. The only major difference between these 2 scanners is the light source. It is not much of an upgrade.

It works for what I need
Since my recently mother died I have been trying to bring sense out of chaos of family documents going back at least 130 years. This is very good and easy to use for slides, photos and postcards. However, it is only okay for documents. I have to put a piece of black cardstock cardboard behind all the back sides of photos with writing on them and do the same for the back side of all postcards if I want to copy them. It would be nice if the panel on the lid had a black side so this was unnecessary,

This is a simple. joyous scanner to use. The software is well thought out and very powerful. The ability to clean up files automatically while scanned (dust, scratches, etc...) is well executed with the hardware in the scanner. I started using it primarily to take 4000 old colour negatives and convert to digital. You can load up to 12 at a time if you have them in 6 negative strips. The scanning time is about 5 minutes per negative if you are using relatively high resolution (3200) and ICE technology to clean up the dust and small scratches on the negatives. The results were extremely impressive. With my set up each TIFF file was about 30MB and ready for import into Lightroom for further improvement. For regular printed photographs it is average and produces OK results. Try and find your negatives if you can. I also did 300 very old (50+ year old) family colour slides. They were in very poor shape and very faded. The recovery ability of this scanning software was amazing, particularly in the colour recovery. It was wonderful though to see the different colour tones of the old slide films of yesteryear. While tedious to do (I did about 100 per day while puttering around during late winter), you will never regret having converted them into digital for viewing at your leisure or with an electronic picture frame. If you use new high MP (24-36) digital cameras and appropriate lenses you will notice how good these new cameras are compared to old film cameras and lenses if you had only consumer grade equipment many years ago, particularly in the area of sharpness at 100%. I use it regularly now for scanning B+W film shooting I do now and avoiding the contact sheet step. I can review all the negatives and select the best ones for printing (via light and chemicals the old fashioned way) much better than the old test sheets. If you wish you can instead print them digitally on a high quality photographic printer (yours or in store). It will also act as a regular scanner for documents etc... All this at an unbelievably low price and great Amazon service.

I recently tested the Epson scanner, and overall, it delivers an impressive combination of image quality, speed, and ease of use—making it a solid choice for anyone looking for a high quality scanner. The scanner produces crisp, high-resolution scans with accurate colors and good contrast. Setup was straightforward.
