I've been taking ON Multi for several years now and its easily my favorite Multi-Vitamin. I do not have any issues swallowing the capsules as some do. Vitamins are potent and work very well. That is debatable, but it is certainly one of the top multivitamins on the market today. This multivitamin especially engineered or manufactured for men is made by the well respected, highly acclaimed supplement manufacturer Optimum Nutrition who is subsidiary of Kilkenny, Ireland-based Glanbia. This company is well known for its Gold Standard Whey protein powder but they actually make a full range of supplement products. Let’s now get into this offering by Optimum Nutrition and their Opti-Men multivitamin supplement product. ------------------------------ FEATURES ------------------------------ Before we talk about the product features, let’s talk about the purity of the Opti-Men product. Due to the massive degree of supplement fraud in the supplement industry, the government has begun to look closer at the supplement industry as a whole. As a natural consequence, many coNSF Certified for Sportmpanies are now seeking what is called the NSF Certified for Sport registered GMP certification. What is that? It is a mark of distinction that sets some supplement companies apart. Supplement manufacturers like BSN, Optimum Nutrition, MusclePharm and Dymatize have this certification. Consumers are now much more aware of this and Optimum Nutrition has happily made it known to their prospects. Their entire in-house manufacturing operation has been registered under the NSF International, The Public Health and Safety Company, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) Program. These standards ensure purity of raw nutrients, manufacturing processes, employee training so as to maintain cleanliness standards. Ongoing audits are performed in order to ensure continued compliance with the regulations. Opti-Men has four of what Optimum Nutrition calls “blends” including the amino blend, viri-blend, phyto-blend, and the enzy-blend. Let’s briefly take them one at a time. The amino blend has eight vital free-form acids totaling 800mg including Arginine, Glutamine and other branched chain amino acids or BCAAs. These amino acids are the the building blocks of lean muscle growth and are indispensable for both muscle growth but also for repair. The viri-blend has 525mg of eight botanicals and marine concentrates including ginseng, one of the most potent super foods in the world, saw palmetto, damiana, and ginkgo biloba. Damiana and ginseng help the male sex drive and ginkgo biloba improves blood flow and mental function. Most multivitamins don’t have herbal extracts like this. the phyto-blend has 240mg of vegetable and fruit extracts with some of the more notable ones being kale powder, kiwi fruit powder, carrot, elderberry, garlic, and many others. The enzy-blend has 50mg various other digestive enzymes. Opti-Men comes with vitamins and minerals including the B-complex, which is a catalyst for energy. All in all it comes with over 75 active ingredients. One of the few negatives to this multivitamin for men is that it comes with pharmaceutical glaze versus enteric coating. Why is this important? Well, most pharmaceutical drugs have enteric coating. Enteric coating is an inert substance that protects the vital nutrients from the harsh acidic environment of human stomach. It protects them until they pass from the stomach into the duodenum where they can then be released into the bloodstream. Pharmaceutical glaze is a poorer substitute than enteric coating. Very few vitamin manufactures use enteric coating as it’s expensive. These multivitamins are awesome. I’ve taken them every day for the past three years. After a recent blood test, my doctor even asked if I take a multivitamin, and when I said yes, he told me he could tell based on my B12 levels and encouraged me to keep it up. That was a great confirmation that they’re working. They’re easy to take alongside other supplements, don’t have a bad taste, and are simple to swallow. One thing to note is that they can turn your urine a bright neon yellow, so don’t be surprised if you notice that, it’s completely normal. Overall, I’ve had a great experience with them and plan to keep using them.

UPDATE: Dec 25, 2016 I now alternate this multi with Life Extension's Two Per Day multi. Additionally, I have just ordered Dr. Tobias Multivitamin & Mineral Plus Enzymes, which contain better formulations of some nutrients such as Zinc and Magnesium. If all goes well I will likely replace this product with Dr. Tbias' multi and still alternate that with Life Extension. Grocery store multi's are of extremely poor quality. People buy them because of the commercials and the convenience of already being in the store to buy other items. Opti-Men absorbs extremely well. They are fairly soft and easy to swallow. Our bodies flush out excess "stuff" over a four to six hour period or so. This is why it is best to reload your nutrients periodically throughout the day. I never take the full daily dose of multi's (except when sick which is extremely rare). I typically stick to a half dose or 1/3 dose. I break one pill in half and take half in the morning and half (or whole one) late afternoon. I eat fairly healthy as well. This product will help to keep you healthy. I strongly advise against taking a full daily dose unless you have a cold, or the flu, or getting over a harsh medical treatment or condition. I also advise you to spread out the dosage to at least twice per day. Do not take it too late in the evening as it may slightly interfere with your sleep (depends on the person). Take it with a meal so that it can dissolve inside a mass of "chime" (goo) inside your intestines. Sort of like dropping a blue pill in water and watching the water turn blue. This will maximize the absorption as the nutrients mix in with the goo that was your meal. The goo will shuttle the nutrients through your intestinal tract for maximum absorption over a longer period of time. I encourage you to skip taking this or any multivitamin at least one full day (if not two) per week to allow excess that may have collected over several days to be flushed. I typically skip Sundays or one weekday. Keep in mind you are getting additional nutrients in your food. High protein meals trigger your intestines to slow down the "pushing" process to allow more time to absorb the protein (our bodies are awesome machines). So if you take this vitamin with a high protein meal, it too will spend more time inside your small intestines allowing a bit more to be absorbed. I sometimes take my multi with a protein shake. Chicken, fish, beef, and so forth are rich in protein which enhances nutrient absorption. ==> Don't forget. Your food contains nutrients as well.

As a former bodybuilder, investing in high quality supplements goes with the territory. I've consumed Optimum Nutrition Opti-Men Daily Multivitamins since 1999. Daily multi-vitamins are essential and partner perfectly with clean eating. Back in the '90s and early 2000s every guy in Golds Gym touted Opti-Men to be the very best daily multi-vitamin. If it's not broke, why fix it? Now 27 years later and Optimum Nutrition company is still in business which speaks for itself. The product changed from little daily convenience packets to this jar of loose vitamins. The quality remains consistent, per semi-annual blood tests as my source to say such a thing. Believe it or not, ON has kept the average daily price about $1 buck per day all these years which shows excellent quality control and professionally run business. Two things i've never liked but the many health benefits far outweigh the dislike of the size of these vitamins are like horse pills, and if taken on empty stomach might get niacin flush; which i've learned to enjoy. Don't be alarmed by radioactive looking bright yellow urine. It's normal. Now that i've written this long review, I realize it is the only product i've consistently purchased and used everyday for the past 27 years. Bravo to O.N.

I’ve been using Opti-Men for about 10 years now and I still take it consistently to this day. I’ve tried switching to other multivitamins over the years just to see if there was something better out there, but I always end up coming back to this one. At this point it’s just part of my routine. What stands out to me most is how my body responds to it. I feel like I actually get better absorption from this compared to most other vitamins I’ve tried. A lot of multivitamins tend to upset my stomach or feel heavy, especially if I take them without enough food, but this one has never given me that issue. It feels clean and easy to take, which makes it something I can stick with daily. Even though I know some people point out that it uses a pharmaceutical glaze instead of an enteric coating, it’s never really mattered in my experience. Whatever the reason, this formula just works well for me. My energy feels steady and I don’t get any of the discomfort I’ve had with other brands. One thing that’s made a difference for me is how I take it. I split the servings throughout the day. I take one with breakfast, one with lunch, and one with dinner. At the end of the day, this is one of those products that just lines up with how I approach everything else. Stay consistent, stick with what works, and don’t overcomplicate it.
