Crest Of A Wave - The Best Of Rory Gallagher

There are many best of cd's of Rory Gallagher,and they are all very good. But for me this double cd is the best. And it was a very nice surprise that there is a other version of Overnight bag on this cd. Different than the original song on the photo finish cd. This version have's a longer solo on the end. For people that want to learn to know Rory's music,this cd will be a very good start.

Great CD, seller and price. I recommend this seller. I am glad to see that Rory is not forgotten. He influenced so many players and he like Mick Ronson, will live forever because of the music they made and the influence.

A must own for Rory fans

Rory Gallagher is a relatively unknown blues guitarist whom I treasure in my collection. I especilaly enjoy the way he goes all the way back to the 1920's in his choices of cover songs. He always credits the original songwriters because it seems he realizes the doors they opened for all blues musicians. By knowing the history of the blues, and playing it to near perfection, his music actually enshrines him as one of the legends. I also really enjoy listening to his up-tempo original cuts. I have other RG albums but this is a great retrospective compilation.

A good cross section of Rory's studio work. Unfortunately, I received a bad pressing with a distortion on many of the tracks and seller refunded my money. In MHO Rory shined in a live setting. Get all of the live albums first then explore the studio work.

Like alot here, have been a fan since Taste, & collected almost all of his releases as well. I suppose there are compilations & reissued Cd's I dont have. And yes there are other releases that also span his career. If I put my "Greatest Hits" together it would vary from everyone elses. I like Secret Agent alot for one. Only saw him twice in 1979 & 1990 when he was sick, but both shows were killer. There was never an hour & a half show by this man, he loved to play that guitar. I enjoy his rockier music over the bluesy stuff, just the music I like more. Pick up the book by his bassist Gerry McAvoy, he gives an inside journey of touring with Rory. I dont even have this Cd yet, thank god for the internet, it sure makes keeping up with releases alot easier these days. None of us OLD rockers are getting any younger. You cant go wrong by owning this cd though.

Another Best of Collection! Although everyone has their favourite Rory tracks this compilation is interesting, though you wouldn't know it from the liner notes. Rory's nephew Daniel has compiled a great album. The main reason for buying this CD is a totally new version of "Overnight Bag" and several remixes of other favourites(I think).Completists like me would prefer the booklet to tell you what's new, unfortunately that isn't the case. However, to my ears some of these versions sound better than the remasters that I already have. In particular "In Your Town" powers out of the speaker cabinet, the studio version of "Walk on Hot Coals" sounds far better than the one on my Blueprint CD. Likewise I think the version of the classic "They dont make them like you anymore" sounds like the best one I've got. Another one is "Out of my mind" off the first classic self titled Rory album (absolutely essential Rory LP), this sounds fab. So, how de we summarise this? You might miss the subtle differences here but I think it's a hot compilation worthy of a place in your collection. The tracks are all top notch Rory Gallagher, buy without hesitation especially if you are new to Rory.You get rock, blues, jazzy and acoustic tracks and you'll love his lyrics.

Rory Gallagher never really got what he really deserved here in NORTH AMERICA while in Europe he was well appreciated and was known as the SUPERSTAR that he really was. IT IS TOO BAD HE DIED SO YOUNG. He could have been the next Eric Clapton as he had everything he needed to be and he WAS BREAKING THE DOORS here in North America finally I got to see him on his Tattooed Lady tour. He was fantastic maybe a little too humble but he was working on that. His untimely Death shocked the music world and his fans terribly while the death of John Lennon was worse for me personally Rory's Death also struck home deeply he was very young and had such a great deal of talent (what a waste ). I do not know if he has yet been placed into the R&R hall of fame but he certainly deserved to be placed there. As far as THIS 2 DISC SET is concerned you may have noticed that I have given it 5 stars, that isn't because he has passed on but because the man simply EARNED EVERY SINGLE ONE, If there were more stars up there I WOULD GIVE HIM ALL OF THOSE AS WELL. It is very hard to keep my fingers typing while some of these songs play as they are simply that good and I want to get up and dance, this is one of those sets where the technical end is very good and the material is superb...ANY COLLECTION AT ALL WITHOUT THIS SET OF BLUES IS SIMPLY INCOMPLETE...BUY THIS SET...
