desertcart.com: Learning the Language of Addiction Counseling: 9781118721773: Miller, Geri: Books Review: Preping for addiction license exam - Just the book I needed for an addiction license exam. I comes highly recommended from several sources. Loaded with information, the kind of information that is expected on the exam. I am very satisfied with this book. Review: Bought for class - I bought this for a class and then decided to drop the class because of my schedule. I have actually flipped through and read parts of the book. It is really interesting. I know that most people think of addiction as something like drugs or alcohol but in reality I would bet we are all addicted to something. Our phones, iPads, tv, foods, games, Facebook, and the list goes on. I think that by understanding addiction and learning how to deal with it we can help maybe ourselves and others around us. As a nursing student I think it is useful but also as a person. I probably check my phone, grades, and Facebook enough to qualify as an addiction.

This book discusses addiction counseling and has many examples of wide variety of clients (a real strength). In terms of counseling theory, the book tends to use a reality-based pragmatic approach rather than an extensive investigation and extended discussion of specific counseling theories.

I had to get this book for class, I rented it but honestly it's such a good book to have if you're going into this career field that I ended up converting to purchase and keeping it. Good book.

This three-star feedback is not for the content of the book but for its poor condition.
