After a week of feeding to my Red Top Lwanda breeder group, the males colors have popped!!! the females and the male are spunky and love this food. One female is now holding eggs in her mouth and not eating. I purchased the 1mm. Should have purchased the 3mm for the full grown cichlids. What was I thinking?. The fish dont care. They still love it. I did a lot of research on high quality African Cichlid food and this one kept popping up in every search. Made in Canada. They make a outstanding fish food!!! My fish love the Krill pellets by North Fin as well. Will buy again and again. Price is a little high but in my opinion worth it. Has a well balance nutrition for your Cichlids. This product does take a couple extra days to get to you compared to other fish foods I've ordered on Amazon. I ordered the 250g bag and Its going to last a couple months if not 3 to 4 months. We will have to see. I only have 4 full sized fish Im feeding with it.

This cost more then my previous food so I was leery. I have no idea on size and bought 2mm. Will need larger for my big boy. "Cheddar" is a 5yr old blood orange cichlid and usually has a white or pale orange look. This food however is worth the price. HIS COLOR!! Fabulous! All fish in this tank and my African cichlid tank seem healthier.

I have mixed feelings. On one hand, the ingredients are top-notch, which is something that I always look for in a fish food. My fishes seemed to enjoy the taste and had no issues eating the pellets. However, the one major downside to these pellets is that they sink way too quickly. Despite being labeled as "slow sinking," these pellets sank like a brick and most of them ended up on the gravel of the tank. This made it difficult for my cichlids to find and eat them, which defeated the purpose of purchasing "slow sinking" pellets. I may consider trying a different type in the future, but I am definitely sticking with this brand. I suggest comparing the ingredients of this brand with the brand you use to see for yourself. In my experience, I found this one to be the best.

My 29-gallon tank has seven 1.5 inch Clown Loaches, two 1" Golden Severum and three Silver Dollars, about 2". I feed them Cichlid Crisps and, for the bottom-feeding Clown Loaches, sinking pellets. The video reviews for this brand have been glowing. I bought my first NorthFin pellets. Hoping for a clearer tank and faster growth with "graduation" to my larger tank. First impressions. The bag is clearly labeed as to size (2mm) and SLOWLY SINKING. They are just a tad under 2 mm in diameter, as the photo shows: 10 pellets in 20 mm. They fall to the substrate in a few seconds, NOT slow, but not a problem. There is no mad rush to eat them. At $1.70 per ounce, the cost is OK Wish it had come in a jar.. Be back in a month with an update. UPDATE: Many months later, it is now the second food (after the Cichlid Crisps, then as a treat some freeze-dried worms) ). I now use it in both tanks, in the 3 mm size. My next order will be the 500 gram bag: twice as much for only 50 percent more. I pour the bag's contents into small jars for easier dispensing. Good food.

Everyone has their preferred food for their fish but if your looking for a change or recommendation for something new you cant go wrong with northfin. They use quality ingredients and they use montmorillonite clay which i feel is an important ingredient for digestion. I used to add it separately until i switched to this food. I have african cichlids and i buy the cichlid formula, krill pro and veggie and mix them together. This is just my person opinion but in the fish keeping world this brand is at or near the very top

Unlike other brands this food does not brown my water. All of my African cichlids go crazy over this food. All of my fish have been growing very well and are coloring up quite nice.The pellets are fast sinking so I recommend you wait until your fish know you're about to feed them before dumping it in. However they do take a while to dissolve so anything that reaches the bottom of your tank we'll have plenty of time to be eaten.

This is a quality staple food for african cichlids. I have fed this for years. The last two years the product quality has deteriorated possibly due to packaging and/or handling. This food has become increasingly more dusty over the last few years. Feeding this brand will definately cloud your water and load up your filter media unnecessarily. Please do better. We expect a little mess after feeding, but this has become routinely unacceptable. We like clear water.

I'm glad I discovered this product. It's my first ciclid tank. Quite honestly, after doing fish tanks for 25 years, the African ciclid has been the easiest tank to maintain. And they absolutely go bonkers for this NorthFin formula. I had one of my guys get blocked up, and he was able to work through it. I didn't do any hospitalization efforts. I figured he'd be motivated if he stayed with his buddies. Now, he's back to being just as big and bold as before. I never changed from this NorthFin formula. The ciclids now look absolutely gorgeous as they've matured, always reshape their substrate, and have crazy social interactions. I also mix in Bug Bites, for variety.
