Works well!
Temperature reading is much faster than my two older thermometer probes. I threw them out. Good thermometer.

Incredibly long lasting and accurate
Friends were asking about our meat thermometer because we are avid users of it to ensure the proper cook of our proteins. And I realized I purchased it in 2014 and now we are still using the same thermometer in 2026 on the original battery! Talk about insane battery life. I’ve had several other thermometers die in that same time frame.Truly an incredible tool that I would recommend time to all friends. We find the temperature to be accurate and it’s so simple to use.Honestly, disregard the fancy appliances… this is THE meat thermometer to get.

Excellent thermometer, fast response - test data included
For some reason, I find myself often needing to measure the temperature of various liquids and solids? How fast does my diet Pepsi cool in the freezer? How hot is the water coming out of my faucet? Interesting data has been gleaned from using this product. For example, in a top loading washer, the thermal mass of the metal and clothes in a top loading washer drops about 20 degrees from the 140 that is dispensed -- leading to a 40 degree shortfall from a commercial washer. While useful for various fun tasks around the house, chefs will appreciate the vary rapid response of the pointed tip. The CDN is clearly superior to an inexpensive thermometer I previous purchased from Walmart. In a laboratory setting, accuracy is important. While my needs are not that stringent, I did want to test within the limited resources at my disposal, including my IR thermometer. So, I test it along with the IR thermometer with three different liquids: 1)water/green tea cooling from boiling temp 2) Polmos rectified spirits - 96% alcohol from freezer 3) Olive oil heated in an oven. In order to somewhat scientific, I avoided ambient air movement and took measurements in a corner of room separate from any radiating heat. This conditions would NOT pass NIST standards but I tried anyway. Results below.Conditions:1) CDN was used to aggressively mix fluid so no surface temperature differences2) Ambient light and air movement avoided3) Insulating potholder used to rest glasses4) Ambient temperature approximately 70-72 degreesAll results in FahrenheitConcentrated green tea in 1000ml pyrexDate: 12/11/2012Time .... My husband loves it for his new meat smoker.
I'm not sure why it has taken me so long to finally buy a quick-read thermometer. We've used the regular thermometers for years and have found them to be terribly slow to register a temperature. Your oven or grill loses way too much heat while you wait. My husband has started smoking meats in his new smoker, so I bought this one for him. What a difference. A quick read and close the door. Very little heat lost. The large screen with big numbers is especially helpful. No more hunting for reading glasses just to check on dinner. The fact that it is waterproof is important for easy cleaning. There are some other features like data-hold, temperature guide, recalibration, auto-off, pocket clip, easy button switch between centigrade and fahrenheit, etc. All very convenient if you need it, but I just like it because it's easy and works well.I did test it in boiling water (212 degrees F) and it registered 210.5 degrees. Good to know when making candy that requires exact temperatures. Still better than my old thermometer which is 3 degrees off.If I could improve it, I would make it a few inches longer. It would make it easier to check the temperature of meats over a hot grill or in the smoker. It would also make it easier to check the temperature of something boiling in a pot, ie. homemade fudge or hard crack candy. I would give it 5 stars in that case. Still, this is a HUGE improvement over having to wait minutes for the old thermometers to work.I would definitely recommend this thermometer.

Accurate Every Time
This handy thermometer is easy to use and accurate each and every time. It can be used on virtually anything that comes out of the oven.

Very VERY good
Bought this in Sep of 2011 - writing this review after SEVEN years in Sep 2018.It has been very reliable & accurate. Still has original battery.Only problem is since a few months ago, the push button to turn it on/off doesn't work reliably - I can eventually get it to come on, but it's not easy. (It's not the battery - I think it's the button not making the proper contact to the circuit board - haven't tried to take it apart, not sure if can).I ordered a different thermometer to replace it that had foldable tip thinking it might be better for certain situations - like bbq grill: with this one that's got immovable straight probe, and needing to be in the meat 5-6 seconds to get reading, can be too hot for the hand to keep in place. But, the cheap foldable tip one I got worked for 1 day.So, I'm thinking about buying another one of these....But, first, I decided to see if I might be able to fix - used an exacto knife on the top and found the black CDN with cutouts peels off (adhesive - not hard to remove and still sticky enough to re-use) which reveals the assembly with 6 tiny phillips screws (pic 1); removed with precision driver, which reveals circuit board attached with 4 screws and 4 wires soldered to the board (the thermocouple and battery). Removed the 4 screws - the power and C/F buttons are separate, the 3 bottom buttons 1 assembly - so I just switched the C/F and power buttons figuring the carbon tip on power worn. But, wasn't paying enough attention, and the LCD just fell off. Wasn't too obvious how contact is made electrically to the circuit board, and then the red power wire came off the circuit board as I was moving things around - got out soldering iron and put it back, reassembled everything, and much to my surprise, the thermometer works! The power button works reliably and the C/F button works too.....!!!

great food-safety tool
We have been relying on a great, fat meat thermometer best suited to roasts and other big cuts of meat, and now that there's just the two of us, it not only can't get a good reading on the smaller cuts we purchase but it also wrecks little pieces of meat. When my husband started chemo this spring, I felt we needed something we could trust to ensure that he's protected from food-borne illnesses that he might not be able to fight off as well as someone else could and which might interfere with his treatment. So I ordered this baby.I had not realized what a nuisance it was trying to read my old needle-on-a-dial type thermometer. I love the digital! The readout is not great (bigger with more contrast would be nice) but it's doable for these 61-year-old eyes. The list of safe temps on the sleeve? Not so much. I have to remove my glasses, squint, and hold the durn thing about three inches from my eyeballs to read those. A better idea would be to copy a chart from some source such as the American Cancer Society books and pamphlets and tape it to your cabinet over/by the stove. On the up side, the thermometer responds pretty quickly, is easy to clean, fits easily into small, crowded drawers (or clips to your pocket if you are moving around a large kitchen or outside to the grill) and comes with a very good bacteria-resistant protective sleeve. Best of all, it shuts itself off very quickly after you're done with it to conserve battery power. You can't leave it in an oven or dutch oven on top of the stove because it has plastic parts, so for those items I'll be hanging on to the old one. Otherwise, this is now my go-to safety-checker.An additional note: I used it to test the safety of my aging crock pot today, and the crock pot flunked. This thermometer really is heaven sent.

Excellent value thermometer for homebrewers and cooks, but watch out for durability issues
I've been all-grain brewing for a few years now, and this is my favorite thermometer by far. It's cheap, accurate, easy to calibrate (this is important!), and pretty durable. I went through four dial thermometers before getting this, and this is a marked improvement in ease of use, accuracy, and durability. It also works great for it's original purpose of taking the temp of cooking meat, which I had never done before buying this, but which I now can't believe I ever skipped. Deep frying a turkey and want to know if it's ready? You can use a flimsy, inaccurate, hard-to-read dial thermometer, or you can use this and eliminate guesswork.I'm on my second one, as the first took a dive into a pot of boiling water and was never quite accurate afterwards.UPDATE: I am taking my review down to three stars due to durability issues. I'm on my second one, and after being dropped a few times it too has developed the same accuracy problems as the first. I can zero both of them in an ice bath, then put them in boiling water and they'll be several degrees off from each other. Then I can set them down on the counter, go away, stick them back in the boiling water and get different readings than the first measurement a few minutes ago. So, not only are they now inaccurate, but how much they are inaccurate waver around randomly from one reading to the next. I had a few batches of beer come out all weird (severely under- or over-attenuated), and I finally figured out that it was my thermometers being off by as much as 8 degrees.

pratico e veloce
