Yes you can paint outside the kettle. It just means dont paint the bbq grill where the steaks lay on top of or inside the kettle where the water goes.

Krylon should also come in the 1,000 Degree High Heat Spray. If so, go with that. Satin Black is good for that type of project since it will help hide everyday finger prints & so on. ***Note: You may want to think about either using a 800 to 1,000 Grit Sandpaper so you can get better adhesion to the Metal surface. If you opt to use the sandpaper do it in a light back & forth motion, just enough so the Paint will adhere better to the surface. Why I recommend a Back & Forth Motion is so pant removed from the appliance is easier to clean off with a damp cloth prior to spray painting the new finish. Good Luck with the project....
