30 years later and still relevant
It's one of Tonio's first two and maybe his best. Amazing list of players executing with precision. Sadly they really don't make them like this anymore.

The album is great, and best of all, it arrived in perfect condition...the postman didn't dance The Watusi on my package. That's always a plus.

SAVE YOURSELF BABY!
Years ago in a review someone said this was "the best album ever recorded." He may have been kidding? It's surely a beauty. Nothing else like it. Prescient even. I Love Love every song he's pounced on here. I even played Say Goodbye in concert once. Other faves are Trouble, Cinderella's Baby, the Night Fast Rodney Went Crazy, Merzuite, Sons of the Revolution--and all the rest of them! In post-hippie-punk-rock this thing trends the crest! What?! "How come this country runs on retrospect?" "I don't know, I don't know--I just don't know!" My wife says dryly, "It's a masterwork." She may have been kidding?

Further up the food chain
Tonio K's first album, "Life in the Foodchain," drew most of the praise, and still appears the most highly regarded/loved of all his albums, but "Amerika" is my pick as his best. Some absolutely killer songs on here, some of the best he ever recorded. Razor-sharp lyrically, with melodic hooks that don't fade away. This is the real deal.

The return of Jacques Vaché (proto-dada)
The only criticism we can do against dada movement is that it didn't wrecked itself, denying its own essence. Er...yes, Tonio K. too. This album is surely one of my favourite of all years. It's messy, unclear, hilariously sad and extatic, and surely really funny. Tonio K began with "Life in the foodchain " which was...rock. This one is...rock. But : If you like rock, .... Tonio K is (yeah, in fact...was) completely brilliantly mad. The songs, even though the album sound like some 50-60 rock encyclopedy are completely addicting. The lyrics are ...hilarious (but take time to decrypt what he tried to say) and completely cynic. The top is reached by the inner picture of this guy...flashing gun on his .... Warning : Tonio K is now a complete .... Go buy "life in the foodchain" and "Amerika" (the best "rock" albums ever made in amerika) and leave the rest to ....

another lost GEM I had to replace,wearing his heart and ideals on his sleeve,he ROCKS OUT like a disciple of Frank Zappa,PLENTY OF GOOD MUSIC....with a POLITICAL sense of ANGER AND FRUSTRATION.........ABOUT THE RULING ELITE,fine stuff,you just dont find today.......

Après un premier album prometteur ''Life in the Foodchain '' , TONIO.K remet le couvert avec cet ''Amerika'' , deux années plus tard ... Le premier était très bien , celui-ci est encore mieux ! nous sommes en 1980 ,tout les groupes, même les plus grands , succombe aux maudits sons FM , sauf Tonio.K ! déjà '' Life in the Foodchain '' en 78 , semblait sortir d'un moule de 73 ...'' Amerika'' ( fini les influences Mott the Hopple ) ; De là , à dire qu'une nouvelle sorte de musique est née ,(je ne franchirais pas non-plus le pas ) , Iggy Pop est passé par là avant , mais ce disque est remarquable ! Tonio.K , bargeot assurément ,( il tire dans la cuvette des WC avec un flingue )sur le dos de la pochette ; contrairement à mes habitudes , je vais analyser la galette de plus près ;pour les connaisseurs sont de la partie :Tonio.K ; vocals , bass , guitars &drums ; Nick Van Maarth lead & rhythm guitars ;Claude Pepper drums & percussions ; Peter Freiberger ,Bass et Paul Hertzog , Keyboards et Garth Hudson ,accordion . détails des chansons ...''One Big Happy Family ''The English hate the Irish , the Arabs hate the Jew ... ( tout est dit dans la première phrase ;un morceau rentre-dedans à souhait ... ''Say Goodbye'' , une ballade à la ''Boss'' , avec un petit plus ...''Sons of the Revolution'' encore une balade, difficile à classer , entre Dylan ,Cougar , ou Barnes ...'' Go Away '' un rock classique , comme sur son premier disque ... ''Cinderella's Baby ''une balade à pleurer ,l'accordéon domine , une chanson que n'aurait pas renié J.Mellencamp . la face 2 ( plage 6 ) ''Trouble '' ENORME ! Vaut tout les Stones-Stooges-Ramones ou White Stripes du monde ! ''Girl Crazy'' encore un morceau que n'aurait pas renié le Cougar sur ''Scarecrow'' ''I'll Buy It ''Excellent !
