Gosh, these things are expensive. As I said in another review, I hate every time I am required to order a new one. But for printing high-quality photos on Canon paper, these Canon inks can't be beaten. Color accuracy, operation, and the all-important "end result" makes these the item of choice whenever printing a high-quality image, and the "BK" color is as important as the primary ink colors. I use mine on a Canon Pixma iX6820, a printer that uses two black cartridges, including this one, and when I print in high-quality mode on Canon's best glossy or matte 13 x 19" (A3+) papers, it still shocks me at just how good the results are. All inkjet prints will fade over time, particularly if you have the print in an area where sun or humidity are at play, but these genuine Canon inks will stand up over time more than off-brands. Note—and this is very important—that this is the "XL" version of the cartridge. It is the same physical size as the CLI-251 BK, but contains a higher quantity of ink than the standard cartridge. I try to purchase the "XL" versions whenever I can because of some increased (minor) economy, and the fact that the cartridge does not have to be exchanged quite so frequently. So, how do I handle the cost? I use third-party inks when printing handouts on plain paper for the office, but when printing photos, I stay with these Canon inks. In spite of the price, their superb, consistent performance make them a Five-Star item.

Never had a problem with these. Just wish they were much less expensive.

We have used Canon Printers & Canon Ink, for many years, but we have also used HP, Brother, etc. We could not begin to count the # of Canon Cartridges that we have used for Professional Printing, Photography & Graphics, over the Years. Rarely, has there ever been ANY problem with a Canon Ink Cartridge or its Ink. The long-term quality, especially for Professional Applications, is Superb. We only use Canon Brand Ink in our Canon Printers; NEVER a knock-off, and our Printers, though used heavily, are still going strong, after many years of use. When we find Printer Models that are far Superior to others, of the same brand or different brands, we do everything possible, to keep those Printers operating for the long-term! We have found, after many years of putting different Printer Brands, Models, and numerous Features through their paces, that using Authentic Canon Ink in Canon Printers has proven to be a top reason for our Canon Printers having such great longevity. We believe Authentic Canon Ink is the best choice, though there are many options, for optimum Canon Printer performance!

Look, I don't like paying through the nose for ink. I'm sure you don't either. However, I've tried the offbrand ink cartridges, and the quality is absolute garbage. If I want to print something, it's because it's important and I need to be able to read it without scrutinizing it. This works. Granted this stuff is ounce for ounce more expensive than a bottle of Pappy Van Winkle. But it does the job. (so does Pappy lol) I find the estimated number of pages wildly optimistic. I print everything on draft profile with minimal ink, and I still barely get 200 to 300 sheets.
