So now before I use it I make sure the paddle spins before adding liquid and it always works great. Look, it's a cheap cup but if you take care of it you can get years of service. First, don't get the battery compartment and motor wet. It you do dry as best you can and leave apart to dry. Don't push the paddle down too tightly against the shaft of the motor. It causes friction and is hard to turn. After sitting you may need to spin the paddle to loosen it. Keep fresh batteries on hand. Don't put the whole thing in freezer to get milk colder. I've followed these steps and I still use mine often after four years. It's cheap but if you take care of it it will last. Best $15 I ever spent. Love me some choco milk! Get one! Or two! It took about 20 tries to secure it. I wondered if a piece had chipped off the frame, but nothing was chipped. I gave it as a gift and I am hoping it's ok. I do know that he LOVED the idea of making his own chocolate milk in his cup. And the cow pattern makes it more fun/cuter!
