A thorough yet easy-to-read commentary that turns complicated theology into practical understanding. This fully updated, one-volume Bible commentary will equip any student of Scripture with the tools to develop a strong understanding of the Bible while also encouraging a habit of daily reading and study. Written by the late William MacDonald, the Believer's Bible Commentary explores the deeper meaning of every biblical book and tackles controversial issues from a theologically conservative standpoint while fairly presenting alternative views. Serving as a friendly introduction to Bible study, Believer's Bible Commentary gives clarity and context to scripture in plain language. Features: Introductions, notes, and bibliographies for each book of the Bible A balanced approach to linguistic studies and useful application Comments on the text are augmented by practical applications of spiritual truths and by a study of typology, where appropriate Colorful maps of the Holy Land and other useful study helps Can be used with any Bible translation but is best used with the New King James version Review: Great for Bible Study - I just started using commentaries to go along with my Bible study to further understand the text. This is a great beginner commentary. I compared it to another one I purchased and I've been tending to favor this one for the ease of reading and understanding. It brings new understanding to light and explains it well. I would highly recommend to anyone starting out and wanting a deeper understanding of the Bible. Review: Excellent Bible Commentary, Bad Packaging - I LOVE THIS COMMENTARY! Type and font is reader friendly and easy to see. The commentary is straightforward, accessible, and uses a variety of quotes/sources from other theologians and books. The book is large and heavy, but can lay flat when opened up. The pages are not too thin, so it feels high quality in your hands. It was delivered in a cardboard box with no additional padding, which was not good and thankfully the box was not broken or damaged in any way because it could have damaged the book itself.

Pleasant Suprise Packed with Goodness
Lost for words, book came as expected, but I am so surprised how beautiful the commentary is.Not as heavy even though there alot pages being the both old.ans new testament is included. Been looking for different commentaries to extend and enhance my study times this year from Genesis to Revelation, needed better understanding and knowledge of what I was reading especially old testament. But I have no reason now, this commentary is bright beautiful, surprisingly not heavy given the pages from old to new testment. I have been watching 👀 and searching other commentaries but most of them were volumes broken by biblical book, or just had old or new. Needed ONE commentary. Reviews were pretty good in other sites. So I took a leap and purchased. Hardback commentary is well made. Pages are thin but print is big enough to read. (I won't recommend a highlighter it may bleed thru. Additional info in the back like supplements eg. Miracles of Jesus Christ and even the parables, life of John also has people and places of the bible. Most definitely would recommend, to anyone who wants to expand their knowledge and understanding of the word.

Love this commentary!!!
After looking at my mother's edition of the Believer's Bible Commentary, I ordered my own copy. Currently I'm studying the Psalm in the bible. I actually like reading the Psalm and then reading the Commentary, which is very informative and interesting. It gives history about the Psalm and gives me "food for thought" that I wouldn't have otherwise considered. It is easy to read and understand. If your looking for a guide to help understand bible passages, this book is it.

A good 1-volume commentary
I'm a lead pastor at a local church and own many commentaries and theological selections. I have been using the first edition of this commentary for about 6 years now, I really do like it. Just a warning though, the author is very dispensational and "Dallas" in his approach to the text. Perhaps this is a turn off for you or maybe a good thing. However, what makes this commentary great is that in places where several appropriate yet differing opinions exist, the author does a good job of giving good summaries of the various view points and does a fair job or simply presenting them. I purchased more of these second edition versions as a gift for the small group leaders at church. Pros: - 1 volume - Concise, easy to understand yet just technical enough for the scholarly audiences out there. - Good quality colored maps in the back. Cons: - Dispensational viewpoint (good or bad depending on your theological stance) - Big and heavy - this one is meant to be kept at home - For some OT sections, tends to get a bit too "metaphorical." Might bother some. Overall, a great primary resource to go for quick references.

Excellent Full Bible Commentary - Highly Recommend!
This is the first resource I’ll go to outside the bible. MacDonald has a clear, easy to understand approach with a sound Biblical hermeneutic. Highly recommend!

Mostly a faithful and reliable Bible commentary, despite a few flaws
Despite the author's occasional and unnecessarily gratuitous anti-Catholic jubes, this is still one of the most reliable Bible commentaries available specifically for Christians who genuinely believe in Jesus Christ., According to the Synod of Rome in 382, the Council of Hippo in 393 and the Council of Carthage, which took place in 397, the books of the deuterocanon of the Old Testament were fully recognized as being an integral part of the Christian Old Testament, which subsisted in its venerable Septuagint Greek version. It was in fact the Septuigint which was recognized as normative by the early Church Fathers, not least because it was the source of Old Testament quotes appearing in the New Testament. The author's unwillingness to accept this demonstrable truth is most regrettable, particularly in view of the fact that his faithfulness to Christ, very evident love of the Bible and superior scholarship make this a book which should be in every serious Christian's library. Too many Christians, including this author, seem to assume that Christ handed out a book - the Bible - in order to spread the Christian faith. However, what Christ did do was to found a living, teaching Church which decided what contents belonged in the Bible. Demonstrably therefore, the Bible came out of the Church, not the other way around. Indeed, no less an authority than St. Paul the Apostle states unequivocally that it is the Church, rather than the Bible, which is, "the pillar of truth," (1 Tim. 3:15). While one cannot adequately understand the Bible outside of its context as an instrument compiled by the Church Christ founded - something which this author conspicuously fails to do - the vast majority of his commentary on the Bible is absolutely faithful and reliable.
