The glass bottom section unscrews from the metal top (be sure to girmly hold the metal band it screws into). Then you just pour the peppercorns in and screw the glass part back. It’s very easy. Mine was a bit stiff the first time I did this (why I said hold firmly) but after that it’s been a breeze. The ground pepper comes out of the metal top portion. (Remember, you need to remove the metal lid before grinding, though I know someone who leaves it on and says the pepper still comes out from under the lid.)

How can i adjust the grinder? no matter which way i turn the bolt on the bottom, i only get fine

According to the directions on the box, turn the adjusting knob counterclockwise for a coarser grind.

What is the grinding mechanism for the pepper mill made of...ceramic or carbon steel?

01/2022 - Got a warranty replacement directly from Olde Thompson. The pepper mill had a ceramic grinder. Contacted Olde Thompson and was told that the last order received from supplier came with ceramic instead of carbon steel grinders. There was no mention of if/when the carbon steel grinders will return.

I don't have the box anymore and I can't say for sure, I think the usual little-golden-elliptical stamp stating "Made in China" was at the bottom.
