I have purchased a fair amount of furniture online that required assembly. In my experience, the first test that determines your happiness is the shipping journey. In fact, large and heavy product has an increased likelihood of arriving damaged. So well packed product is extremely important and I am delighted to say that Prepac did a commendable job protecting the product. I had no issues whatsoever with damaged parts. There have been some review complaints I read relating to sawdust in the carton, but it really was nothing a handy vacuum could not address. Assembly was simple and straightforward, there were no missing parts and the wood was finished perfectly. The instructions were basic and straightforward and maybe a bit more detail would have been welcomed to speed up assembly time. Also, having a helper for some steps may be advisable, but I assembled by myself without issue. The shelf configurations for various height needs are numerous. The unit is stable on carpet but I suggest securing to wall for safety and peace of mind as recommended in the instructions with the supplied hardware. A few other mentions. The product is shipped in two cartons, which I thought was a smart decision to stabilize weight distribution and reduce potential shipping damage. This model I chose has thicker vertical supports which can hide a DVD on the ends when storing vertically. Some may have issue with this, but I prefer the look of the thicker verticals and can live with this minor issue. In the unlikely event there are missing, damaged or defective parts Prepac has clear instructions to address this unfortunate situation. They state a 2 business day turnaround time for replacement parts. I am very happy with the product and absolutely recommend to anyone who desires an attractive product to store and display your DVD movies.

For someone who isn't all that handy, I found this unit fairly easy to assemble if you take your time. I spent about 1.5 hours, but only because I had to redo a step (details below). Once assembled it looks very nice and holds a surprisingly large number of CDs. I thought at first I might have to buy two of these, but one more than handled my collection. The unit arrived in pieces and most were covered in a layer of dust as others have mentioned. It was easy to wipe off, but I wonder why this wasn't done at the factory. I found the instructions somewhat confusing in a few places. The thing that tripped me up, mentioned by other reviewers, is you have to make sure the two inner vertical support pieces are assembled with the holes facing the front of the unit. This is so you can put the decorative front pieces on them later. The instructions do not make this clear and the boards aren't marked in any special way. I had to unscrew them and reverse them once I realized my mistake. The tools I used were a hammer, a level, a stud finder, and an electric drill / screwdriver. The electric screwdriver was very valuable and I'd consider it a must-have for putting this together. The unit attaches to the wall very nicely by hanging on a lipped board you affix to your wall. It is very sturdy assuming you drill into a wall stud. The only fault I can make is the decorative front pieces and sides cover up some of the storage space. If you pack your CDs in too tightly the CDs can go behind these pieces, making them difficult to pull out. You can use some of the extra metal studs that the shelves sit on to stop the CDs from getting lost back there, but there aren't enough extra ones for every shelf. As noted by others, the bottoms of the shelves are not finished and are thus lighter in color than the finished parts. However this wasn't a problem for me. I can't see these areas when hung up on the wall, even with the shelves empty. I'm very pleased with the unit for the price I paid for it.

This media stand has incredible storage capacity without hogging an entire wall of your room. It's a quality product, made of sturdy wood that I'm confident will have no issues supporting a media collection, books, or any other odds and ends you may choose to put on the shelves. It takes up about as much space as a 5-foot-tall person would if you put a box around them and is suprisingly easy to assemble: there are a total of 12 pieces, not including screws, and all you need is a philips screwdriver and a hammer (hammer use is minimal, and mindless). Once it's assembled, it's relatively easy to lift (the boxes it comes in are HEAVY - one is 70 lbs; the second is smaller, but awkward to lift). The pieces are nicely labeled as being part of Box A or Box B, and are so easy to identify that there's no risk that you'll mistake one component for another. As someone else mentioned, be ready to spend some time cleaning off the sawdust that coats the packaging - it took me more time to clean off the assembled unit and shelves than it did to put it together. Storage capacity (MAX): - 26 CDs per shelf; max of 10 shelves per side (so if you wanted to fill all 4 sides with CDs, you could fit 26 x 10 x 4 = 1,040 CDs) - 18 DVDs per shelf; max of 7 shelves per side (so if you wanted to fill all 4 sides with DVDs, you could fit 18 x 7 x 4 = 504 DVDs) - 22 Blu-rays per shelf; max of 8 shelves per side (so if you wanted to fill all 4 sides with Blu-rays, you could fit 22 x 8 x 4 = 704 Blu-rays) Note: The above numbers assume that you're using basic CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays (no box sets, etc.). Keep this in mind when figuring out whether or not this will be large enough to hold you current (and future) collection. Or, you can be like me and mix and match the above. I also have every intention of buying a second one of these to store my library of paper-back books :) *UPDATE* I did end up purchasing not just one, but two more of these units. They're fantastic at supporting books of all sizes, though the mass media paperbacks are definitely the most aesthetically pleasing fit: they end up inset about an inch from the edge of the shelves, so factor in the depth of the book when deciding whether or not you're comfortable with the "look" of books extending past the depth of the unit. For quantities (based on your typical 200-300 page mass-market paperpack): - ~10 Books per shelf; max of 7 shelves per side (so if you wanted to fill all 4 sides with mass-market paperback books, you could fit 10 x 7 x 4 = 280 Books) I'm personally alright with the "look" of the larger books on the shelves and can happily confirm that the shelves easily support my college text books (including the huge accounting and tax reference books I've accumulated). I will warn that when you're filling these units with whatever media/books/items you choose, be careful to distribute the weight evenly (e.g. fill opposite sides at the same time; make sure that you distribute the weight across the top and bottom of the shelves). The reason isn't that the unit won't support the weight, but when you go to turn it on the lazy susan, there's a risk that it can tip over if you only fill one side (or especially two adjacent sides) while leaving the rest of the unit empty.

DVD/CD Storage I had over 1100 dvds and needed storage. Bought 2. Easy to put together for my husband, looks very stylish and is quite sturdy. Extra shelves for different dimensions for all kinds of media Storage. Loved it so much, bought another for my CD collection. I very rarely do reviews, but felt I needed to because this product was better than I could have ever imagined. You can't go wrong.

I write very few product reviews but I am so pleased with this CD rack that I had to do so. The rack is as advertised and the assembly was very easy. The directions were clearly written with accompanying diagrams that were very specific. I am not a handyman but this was easy to assemble. Pre-punched holes lined up perfectly. The cabinet itself is compact, attractive and will hold hundreds of CDs. I am glad that I bought it. - Bud R., Warwick. NY
