It's a substantial improvement in several ways: The throat is larger allowing easier placement of tree straps or other items; the gate is heavier-duty than the thin, comparatively fragile gate of the original hook, and the over all size and heft is substantially greater as well. For the money, especially compared to other, far more elaborate and expensive options - it's a no brainer. Added bonus, it looks great on the front of your rig.
