will this connector work for my royal cash register? I have bought scanners for the register, but wonder if the USB scanners may last longer.

This is a serial to USB converter, not vice-versa. If your scanner has a USB connection already, then this item is of no use to you. By the way, less and less laptops (and I would assume desktops) come equipped with a COM port (that is why I needed this converter), so opting your USB port for a COM port sounds more of an own goal. Perhaps I misunderstood your question.

Prolific chips often exhibits erratic behavior with some serial devices. The reliable chip is the FTDI chip.

Para el que puso que no sirve es porque no instaló los drivers que se requieren, a menos que tengas tu PC lista para su uso. Me sirvió muy bien, el precio es realmente nuevo ya que eso cuestan aquí con una calidad muchísimo menor.
