Will this work for a macbook pro 15 in, from early 2009?

This will fit the 15 inch early 2009 MacBook Pro.  You will need a small phillips screwdriver and a T6 hex screwdriver to do the swap.  The T6 hex is so you can transfer the mounting screws from the HDD to the SSD.  The only concern I have is that your laptop uses SATA2 (3Gb/s), so you will not be able to utilize the full read or write speeds of this drive.  You will still get some of the benefits of an SSD over a HDD (faster boot, faster app launch, better battery life), so doing the upgrade won't be an absolute loss.

What is the difference between tlc and mlc?

TLC (Triple-Level Cells) and MLC (Multi-Level Cells) are different flash memory technology to store number of bits per cell. TLC stores 3-bits per cell while MLC stores 2-bits per cell. The key differences are price (TLC is cheaper than MLC for the same storage capacity) and durability (TLC has lower erase cycles than MLC which translates to shorter lifespan). However, with new TLC intelligent controller technologies, TLC behaves like MLC in performance and durability (measured in Terabytes Written (TBW) and Drive Writes Per Day (DWPD)) while offering lower $/GB.

This ssd is for a standard pc, ie not a laptop

This drive fits a laptop (2.5" size); mines installed in my ASUS i3 laptop.  But there isn't any reason it won't fit in a standard PC with the right mounting hardware (2.5" to 3.5" mounting frame).  The speed difference will blow you away. Good Luck.

Any software or one lime license to clone the existing drive to it?

I used the free edition of Macrium Reflect. I have also used Clonezilla in the past, but Reflect has a more user-friendly gui.
