Realistic Animals in Colored Pencil: Learn to draw lifelike animals in vibrant colored pencil (Realistic Series) : Snowdon, Bonny: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: Stunning book by a stunning artist - I love this book. As an admirer of Bonny Snowdons work I couldn't wait for it to be released. The book it's self lives up to all my expectations and is full to the brim with information, instruction, hints and tips on how to improve my own art work. The only disappointment was in desertcart's lack of care in packing this for delivery. It arrived in an unsealed envelope with bits of the cardboard envelope glued to the front of the book and bent corners. I did applaud the delivery driver for not losing the book in the back of their van. Thankfully the damage does not impact the joy I get from reading the book. Review: Excellent guide for colour pencil artists. - Bonny's book 'Realistic Animals in Coloured Pencil' is one of the must-haves for any artist wishing to become proficient in this very exacting medium. The use of Colour Pencils as an end in itself, is growing in popularity and familiarity in the international art world, and the UK artists are well represented in multifarious awards . Bonny expertly guides you through the various kinds of pencils, erasers, blenders, burnishers and supports on which you can work, and the remarkable effects you can achieve, and illustrates by example each of these techniques. Her step-by-step process on different supports using her well developed and familiar techniques are easy to follow. And simply by following her notes on each of the stages, you will soon get to grips with these techniques. As the say, practice makes perfect. An instructive and well illustrated guide that will be one of those staple books every colour pencil artist will constantly refer to. Thank you Bonny.

This is a fantastic book.
Bonny Snowdon has to be one of the best art tutors out there, and this Kindle book perfectly demonstrates her skill as a teacher of coloured pencil art. The instructions are clear and precise and the book is full of great tips and hints and you can be sure that if followed correctly, you can produce a wonderful animal portrait at the end of it. I particularly like the zebra portrait and the Peacock is stunning. In fact, I love this Kindle book so much that I will be purchasing the paperback book as soon as it is back in stock.

Almost excellent
I really wanted to give this a 5 star review. Unfortunately, a few points let it down: * As others have noted, some of the images (for two of the projects in the book) are very dark indeed, making it difficult to see any detail, which may make things more difficult for novices in particular. * The text is also let down by inexplicably using Americanised spellings ('color'/'favorite' etc) throughout. Given Bonny is British - and the fact the British spelling of 'coloured' is used on the cover of the book - this feels really odd and I found it jarring while reading. * It would also have been helpful for the book to contain line drawings for tracing out the pictures, in preparation for following along with the projects. This seems a particularly strange omission, given the premise of the book! All of that said, the content of the book is otherwise very well put together, with lots of really helpful tips from Bonny sprinkled throughout. It's just a shame it's let down by the other points.

The best there is!
There’s no better teacher in colour pencil than Bonny. Super talented and always generous with her knowledge and time, this, her first book, packs in all the essentials to start your journey in animal portraiture in colour pencil. I’ve witnessed first hand how novice artists have developed through her free videos and online academy teaching to produce absolutely incredible work. This book gives an excellent introduction into what can be achieved with this wonderful medium. Be warned, it can become an addictive hobby!!!

Darkness issues
A lovely book on coloured pencil animals from a great artist but, oh dear, the dark pages are, in my opinion, hopeless to try and follow, such a shame, even if the publishers enhance these its not a lot of use to those of us who have bought already. Bonny is a wonderful teacher, such a shame, but i am going to try the kitten!

5 stars for the kindle version.
I prefer a digital content because I can always have it with me. Bonny has put her heart and soul into producing this book, not to mention hours of thought and hard work. Some wonderful advice and tutorials here, great for both beginners and the more experienced colour pencil artist. I am a member of her amazing Colour Pencil Academy and I can honestly say Bonny is an amazing artist, teacher and mentor you will not regret buying this book.

Beautifully written and a joy to read
This book will help any beginner to begin their journey into coloured pencil art or aid the more advanced artist to further their art to the next level. The book explains the basics very well and answers many questions about the different pencils and papers that are available. I belong to the authors Patroen channel and Academy and although only been drawing a year my understanding and art have very quickly evolved. So buy the book. You won't be disappointed. And then check out the authors YouTube and Patroen.

There are many images that appear dark overall, and I don't think it's simply a printing issue. I wonder about the choice of drawing a dark-colored dog on dark-colored paper. While this may be very informative for those who work with Pastelmat, it’s not as helpful for someone like me who works on watercolour paper. Although the cat drawing is done on watercolour paper, it falls short compared to the artist’s other works. I believe the pieces this artist created on Pastelmat are truly outstanding.

First of all, I’m thrilled to have this amazing book in my library. Bonny Snowden’s work in colored pencil is world-renowned and to finally have a book written by her in my hands is an absolute treat. The book is very well thought out and meticulous in its instruction. The explanation of materials needed for colored pencil art is detailed in description and use - an invaluable resource to have at your fingertips. There is a lovely variety of subjects to draw and, notably, on a variety of surfaces — which is something rarely found in other instruction books on colored pencils. I’m starting with the first project of the kitten reaching for the ornament and, hopefully, will finish it for this year’s holiday cards and I will update my review with a photo when I finish. And then onto that amazing, colorful peacock on drafting film! Feathers! So many new techniques to explore make colored pencil exciting. I take issue with some of the previous reviews that a few of the photos in the book are dark. I believe that some of the reviewers are use to seeing Bonny’s art from a computer screen and, of course, the printed page will never look the same as an image that is back-lit on a computer screen. Colored pencil works are hard to photograph and, as a graphic designer, I’m aware that printing rarely reveals the true nature of any art. Don’t let that stop you from purchasing this gem and enjoying the step by step tutorials. Bonny Snowden has spent years developing her techniques and methods and is well-known for sharing her talents generously through her online Academy and various social media sites. To have this book is like icing on the cake - absolutely delicious!
