Does water get inside the sphere or does it stay water-tight? I'm thinking about mildew...

We've used them for almost 3 months now twice a week in the tub, and they are doing great! No water inside! They are still holding their color on the outer rings too.

do you get 1 each of the 4 different balls or is it random? I saw some reviews saying they only received 2 types and 2 of each

I also received 2 turtle and 2 stick balls. I was expecting 4 different also.

What is the age recommendation?

I would say any age, their basically hard plastic rattles

Cute float bubbles for the bath!

I bought these for my 9 month old! And she loves them!!! They float atop in the bath tub. They make a rattling noise when shaken! They're very colorful, fun, cute! I love that they don't have any holes, so that no water can get in and create a potential for mold. They're a great size for a baby to be able to grab and pick up. I am so happy with this purchase.
