Why so heavy? 2.1 pounds for this productvis too much or this is the weight of all with packaging? What is the weight only of the product?

Actual weight is 635 grams which is about 1.4 pounds.

Does it fit over an adventure touring jacket?

Probably so it just goes around your neck and has a strap and buckle system so it fits with alot of stuff

Would this work for downhill mountain bike?

I do not see why not, this is a safety device designed for riding to protect ones neck. I use it for desert racing on quads and it is comfortable and adjustable. Hope this helps!!
